Description: Our restaurant is located in Quito's Historical Center on the second floor of Sucre National Theater, Cultural Patrimony from the XIX century, an expression of renaissance classicism. In the entire second floor it is located the most important restaurant in Quito, THEATRUM Restaurant & Wine Bar that offers an extraordinary menu of the vanguard Mediterranean cuisine. One of our emblematic dishes is the Grilled tender octopus with mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, garlic tossed in pesto vinaigrette. Our classic Ecuadorian prawns on the grill with avocado mousse and tomato fondue.

One of the best meals I have ever had. And, while it was expensive by Ecuador standards, by US standards it was not bad at all. Two glasses of wine, two entries, two huge appetizers, and a shared desert for $100 with tax and tip.

I loved this place, The setting was elegant without being ostentatious. ( I feared the latter, given what it looks like from the outside.) The restaurant itself was quiet. And the food was fantastic, Widely varied menu. Lots of local food. Many options for pescatarians. Creative menu choices. Beautifully presented. What's not to love?

We were a large group and our dinner was perfectly served. The food was very tasty and the proportions very generous. We loved the sorbet dessert with accompanying brochure explaining the fruit it was made from. The building the restaurant is in is beautifully lit at night. Really nice experience.

We went at 5 on Sunday to look at the menu. A man escorted us in, showed us around, took photos for us on the balcony and theater lobby, offered us discount pricing, custom picks for our tasting menu, and hotel pickup. It was very VIP and we were excited and made reservations for 730.

By 750 no one had come to pick us up from the hotel and so we took a cab. We were very cautiously let in when we got there but they eventually found our reservation. We were told there was certainly no discount nor switching of items on the tasting menus as we were told. The man from earlier was no where to be found so it was tough to explain our case. Service was brisk and curt, they were bothered because they were ‘full’.

The potato patties and cerviche were excellent, but other than that the food was certainly good, but not amazing. I overall enjoyed the tasting menu.

We paid in cash and were given $7 in quarters for our change because they didn’t have any other way to provide change. Sure. We were not offered the courtesy drop off service on our way out as is posted on their sign out front and we took a taxi home.

We ate here twice for dinner as 3 different hotels recommended it. They all said we would need reservations, but we didn't and when we went, it was 7 then 8 people. The food was delicious, especially the seafood. One in our party tried the tasting menue and it was a lot of food, but small portions so a lot of variety.

We were staying at a hotel a couple blocks away so tried this. We were casually dressed as were many other people at this very elegant setting. The food didn't wow me, but there were interesting things to try (although the most interesting on the menu-- cuy, suckling pig-- weren't available) and these were well prepared with lovely presentation. 3 courses took t-w-o h-o-u-r-s, which was longer than we would have preferred after a day touring around Quito. To my ear, everyone eating in the restaurant were tourists, no locals. So, this is a very safe bet if you'd like good food in a quiet setting but not a window into where people from Quito go for a special occasion.
