I went to the Yuturi Lodge in 2001. I went with a friend since with a friend since my wife wasn't thrilled about spending a week in deep jungle.
Well it is very difficult to put this wonderful experience in words but I will try anyway.
First of all, be prepare for a long long trip to get there. You will have to take a small (very small) plane for a 45 minute trip to "Coca" and then it is over 3 hours of motorized canoe to get to the lodge. Be prepare to get soaked because this motorized canoe is going as fast as it can and you will be splashed all the way if you are in the front. I strongly suggest that you try to get in the back even if it won't make a big difference. Another thing that makes this canoe trip so hard is that you will be sitting on hard bench for over 3 hours... A real pain in the butt !!!
But once you get there, you will experience something that you will never find anywhere. The amazon jungle is simply breath taking. After traveling on the Napo river for so long without seeing any sign of civilisation you get to a wonderfull place. There are cabin for two that have good bed with a mosquito net over, 1 shower per cabin (cold water only!) and as clean as a jungle cabin could be.
There is a big restaurant where all the meals are served. It is quite simple but nice. The meals were also better than I expected. No phone, no pager, no computer, and electricity only between 4PM and 8PM (at the main building). They use a generator for electricity so this is why it is only available for a few hour per day, just to allow us to recharge our camera batterie and to provide cold beer for the evening !
But what makes this experience so incredible and so unforgettable is the environment and the very impressing knowledge of the guide that accompany us every day. This place is like nowhere else on earth and you will learn a lot. We saw a lot of animals (parrots, monkeys, crocodiles, piranhas, insects, anacondas, etc...) and we really learn a lot about the plants and what you can do with it (use for food, use as medecine, etc...). We even had the "chance" to taste some ants !!!
The excursions are great and change everyday so your week there will go very fast so enjoy every minutes of it. Do go there for less than 5 days you will miss too much.
Do not bring food in your cabin or I garanty you that you will have visitors at night (rats !). And if you are a picky eater this is not really the place for you but this is not a factor that should prevent anybody to go there.
Here the things that you must bring there : Digital camera, batteries, swimsuit, hat, mosquito net, insect repelant, raincoat (with pants), sunscreen, and an open mind !
I really appreciated that jungle escape and I would like to go back there with my sons when they are a little older. Just to show them that you can live a week without computers, video games and TV and still have the best time of your life.
