We strolled into this art sanctuary and found plenty of exciting, fresh and innovative artistic expressions which were equal parts unique and intriguing.

Free entry. Highly recommend!  Budget an hour and a half for your visit.

Unfortunately for us there was no live theatre but still much to see in various sections of the large and beautiful complex. Several of the open sections seemed to be in the process of cleaning and or setting up new displays. The tapestry , embroidery and visual art displays we quite interesting. We found the works and history of Violeta al Hilo inspiring . A very beautiful building and today was All free.

I went to see "Violeta Al Hilo" the exhibition included works of embroidery, tapestry, lanigraphy and textile collage. It showed a burlap attributed to Violeta Parra herself, the rest were works of embroiderers and weavers from different periods. It's really beautiful since it shows a different part of Violeta and it shows how she inspired different woman in different times and places. GAM is located in Lastarria Neighbourhood and it has a free entrace, it has bathrooms and places to eat and drink a coffe besides a library!

Centro cultural Gabriela Mistral(Gabriela Mistral cultural center) , also known as GAM, is a big center close to the Universidad Catolica metro station that offers you paid activities like: teather, music shows, dance class, and more, also free services and spontaneous shows such as: free wi-fi ,free bathrooms, tables and sits to work or study, activities like yoga, dace classes and 3 free museums and exposition that are constantly changing, its is open all the week from 6am to 8pm, and the saturdays is until 10 pm. Gam is a common place for tourist because of it location, is located next to Lastarrias Neighborhood, a popular place to visit. Gam has a lot to offer and the fact that is always offering you new activities and exhibitions, makes it a place that you must go.

Located next to Universidad Católica Metro Station, this center is usually worth a visit not only because of its innovative copper and wooden architecture but also because of the great expositions and cultural events that use to take place there. Chile Monos was actually a very good example of it, as it showed a very complete graphic sample of the whole history of chilean cartoons, so it was very interesting to get to know all those kinds of styles of cartoons over the years, and to see how have them diversified lately also with the help of technology. I was really impressed that there were so much cartoons and that some of them were really high quality, as I definitely wasn't aware that Chile was that developed in that area. The sample included a special place both for the chilean winner of the 2017's Academy Award for the best Animated Short Film, and for the first chilean cartoon. There you can watch some videos about these latest. I only missed there weren't more about the other cartoons, but I definitely recommend a visit anyway!

Beautiful and interesting building and very cool exhibits. As a multigeneration family, this cafe was a perfect hang out/retreat from time to time as the location is very central to other attractions and open Sundays/public holidays. Great coffee, friendly young staff, heaps of space and a overview of courtyard /student hang out with modern dance and theatre students casually rehearsing so lively things going on for kids and others to look at...

The cultural center is a well designed multi-purpose venue that can be described as a mix of a exhibition, museum, vernissage, book store and much more. We strolled around the center for quite a while, observing art by local and foreign artists and simply enjoying our time, before heading back to Bario Lastarria for dinner afterwards. No entrance fee required, simply check the opening hours and you should be good. Enjoy!

i went there wanting to attend to the theater, but the festival that was going on (santiago a mil) is so popular that all the tickets were sold out even for the next 3 days. instead i attended a contemporary dance/performance act which was really good. in the public spaces there were a lot of kids practicing their coreographies. this place breaths the emotion of the people and their passion for all kinds of arts. they also have a cafeteria, a bookshop and a wineshop.

GAM is incredible. I go here primarily forthe theater, but this is a comprehensive cultural megaplex with dance, music, classes , art exhibits. You can´t beat the theater here and even if you don´t speak SPanish you can enjoy the cafe, the art exhibits, a wine shop and bookstore. You can marvel at this cultural mecca.

If you plan to visit Santiago must go to Gaberiela Mistral Cultural Center, where there are different types of lectures on various topics of interest. There are also cafes, a museum inside and weekends many people will get rid of stress by dancing, you can find everything from free style, urban dance and Asian music is what today attracts the attention of young people , who passionately gather to dance and play their favorite musicians or bands.
