I have been to this place twice. First in the summer, and the second time in the winter.
Well, I didn't know what to go to the zoo in the open air zoo wasn't a good idea at all. All animals hid in their houses and didn't want to come up.
Places with snacks don't sell hot tea/coffee ://
Butin the summertime this place is cool! Lots of animals and joy.
The price for entrance is fair - 4000 CLP per person
One lifehack is that the seniors over 60 years pay twice less.

Costing 2000 pesos for students and 4000 for adults it is a very cheap way to kill a few hours. The zoo is built into the hill side with about 25/30 animal enclosures. I would say that generally the conditions are nice for many of the animals which is great for those who consider the welfare of the animal before visiting similar attractions - I would argue the enclosure for the sea lion and a few of the big cats and large animals like the hippo and lions are a bit small and maybe glum. However it is a beautifully green zoo with a crazy number of animals like meerkats, llamas, elephants, bears and giraffes. The bird enclosure where you are able to walk amongst the various species of birds is also quite impressive. There is a play area for children and a couple of cafes in and around the site - the toilets were clean and staff were helpful. It is a bit steep at parts that prams and wheelchairs may struggle with.

Santiago Zoo is located very close to Baquedano metro station, not sure why but google maps shows almost no roads to get there, but just take metro line 1 and get down in Baquedano station, then walk for about 5 blocks, once you get there you can either take the cable car or the stairs if you go for the stairs you´ll have to walk uphill since the zoo is over a mountain, if you use the cable car you get down on top of the zoo and work your way down. The zoo is not big but has a lot of animals, their big cats exhibition is very nice, and small animals like monkeys or meerkats are very entertaining, they also have penguins and giraffes.
The entry cost is about 7 USD, it is a good place to walk around watch the animals with interesting quotes about their habitats and see Santiago from the various sights available from the mountain.

This a very good zoo, we saw elephant, giraffe, lion, tiger, monkeys, penguin... There were a lot of animals, a good visit, mainly if you are taking kids. Pay attention to the stores that sells water and restrooms because there are a few of it. It's better to take something for the kids to eat, than eat there.

We wanted a chill activity on our last day in Santiago and decided to visit a zoo, since it was a walking distance from our hotel. We arrived close to 4 pm and stayed just a few minutes passed 6pm, was a perfect time, not overcrowded, not too hot outside. You can pay only in cash and local debit cards. Once entered, you cannot re-enter, be mindful of that. We enjoyed watching all the animals, specifically birds! What a fun little trip, and a view of course from the hill is amazing!
