This is a must see in Santiago. While you are there, also check out the mercado central fish market just a few blocks away. Also within walking distance is La Moneda, Bellas Artes and Santa Lucia. Make a day of it!

A visit to Santiago without a visit to Plaza de Armas is unthinkable. But to say that the square is beautiful is a different matter. Interesting to see are the religious groups that are sometimes praying, chanting, preaching and even exorcising bad spirits.

Lots going on. Performers, artists, chess tournament and surrounded by lovely buildings.

It was an interesting location in the middle of everything, and there was amazing helado a maquina (soft ice cream) to enjoy - try the platano! (banana)

But otherwise, there was simply an overabundance of people begging and sleeping on the street. An unfortunate reality of one of Santiago's largest "tourist attractions."
