Headed to Equinox to celebrate my wife’s birthday. From the moment we stepped in to the restaurant the service was welcoming and superb. Chelle made sure that we wanted for nothing.

The food also did not disappoint. Both entrees and mains were delicious. We had the Burrata and also Yellowtail sashimi for entree. Mains was the steamed Lemon Sole and Chicken. Both very flavorsome!

And I didn’t mention the perfect view!

Thank David W

We requested for a window seat (additional charge) and the night view was gorgeous. Service was excellent too. The only thing that falls short was the food. We ordered steak and i would say there are restaurants that served better steak for that price.

It was not exactly a planned birthday celebration for my wife. Reservation was made in the afternoon after my first choice restaurant did not materialize. However did not regret as the celebration with dinner brought about overwhelmed joy for my wife. Service was excellent and attentive with my requests quickly met and the staff even make it a point to engage with us. In term of the food quality, speechless as the taste and presentation was beyond imagination. However be prepared to burn a whole in the pocket if you are having a dinner celebration there.

We have been dining here since 1990, when the restaurant was still Compass Rose. At that time, we were tourists, but by the time we moved to Singapore in 2003, they had completely revamped the place, decor and menu, renaming it Equinox. This restaurant is special to us - we made the trip from New York to celebrate the eve of the millennium at Compass Rose. So, through the years, we have seen and experienced a multitude of changes to the menu, dining style and decor.

While we are glad that the restaurant constantly sees the need to upgrade and improve based on demand and current trends, there are a couple of changes which particularly did not sit down well (literally speaking as well!) with us. We sorely miss the white tablecloths, surely a hallmark of elegant fine dining. The move was apparently to lend a more casual, hip and young vibe to the table setting, making it less "stuffy". However, if prices remain at sky-high (pun intended) levels, then the style of service should reflect that. We did not like putting our used cutlery down on bare tables - yes, they don't even have placemats (!!), dirtying the table all the time. Furthermore, the semi-circular chairs which replaced the really comfy, elegant ones are so tiny, without a backrest, that I can only imagine how a man of regular fit can be comfortable in it.

Note to management - please, please use table mats if you do not use tablecloths.

We have also seen the menu change from classic European to one that had equal mix of European and/or Asian - either or, not fusion, to the current one now, which is smaller, a more streamlined modern minimalist European. Where food is concerned, there has been a mixture of really good, to bland and forgettable. The lunch is now semi-buffet, with an a'la carte main dish (quite tiny in portion, so take note). This was the latest meal we had, and the main courses on our table were all executed to a high standard. The buffet spread is not as extensive as a full hotel-style buffet, but it is adequate and more importantly, of good quality.

Long gone is afternoon tea - the more traditional English kind, which eventually morphed into a typical Singapore hotel buffet style everything-under-the-sun 3pm - 5pm eating. And now that is gone too, leaving them to concentrate fully on lunch and dinner.

Dinner is always special here though. A good advice for tourists will be to arrive before sunset so that you can enjoy the beautiful vista both in light and dark. The food and service is almost always reliable, not innovative nor mind-blowing, but just quite consistent. It does not take centre-stage - the view does every time. So, like many others who have reviewed Equinox, come for the view, and enjoy good, slightly over-priced food, professional service and a quiet, romantic evening. Having said that, on two occasions we were there, they allowed young toddlers and babies for dinner, and unfortunately both times, they created a racket with fussy crying. It was rather surprising that the management did not/ could not do anything when clearly the parents did not view it as wrong or embarrassing with the child screaming in a setting like this and did not take the baby out of the restaurant.
