“Nature in suburbs of the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 March 2012

We only had a few days in Singapore so couldn't make an extended jungle hike in nearby Malaysia so this served just as well. Since we had two children with us, the walks were very managable for them and of course the monkeys were the high spot of the morning. We were lucky to have good warm, non humid weather in December - the best time to visit. There is a great hawker center close by - a large green building about half a km to the left as you are facing the main road with your back to the park.

“What? This is the only primary forest in Singapore??”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 February 2012

Ok, after reading about Bukit Timah in Lonely Planet, we hopped on a bus and went over, willing to see this dense foliaged nature reserve.

No busdriver understood where we were going and after a long drive, we were dropped off infront of a shopping mall, in the vicinity of a green looking hill, with 2 red/white striped electricity poles on top. After a bit of asking around, this green hill, turned out to be "the" Bukit Timah nature reserve. So, a bit surprised, we went up the hill.

All that is there are small monkeys, sitting around the path up to the hill, wooden walkways, with loads of joggers going about and a small refreshmentshop on top of the hill with dressingrooms for all these joggers.

The view (looking out at electricity poles), is really not worthwile the travel down and up there.

“Monkeys!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2012

Worth a trip just to see the monkeys. Good to stretch one's legs here. There are even some hills to enjoy! You can claim to have summited SIngapore (163.63m)! It was fun to see the monkeys wandering about even on the paths. Generally litter free. As all places SIngapore, go early or late to manage the heat. Bring some water, I don't recall water fountains along the way.

“For hiking/biking trail lovers”

A great place to spend a Sunday morning. Well shaded, no/little litter. For mountain bike lovers, be prepared to burst your lungs out on the biking trail.

“A nature reserve that should not be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

You can walk straight up to the highest point in Singapore which is the Bukit Timah Hill. Or you can take the numerous paths in this nature reserve to see the diversity that is present in this small piece of Singapore. The Hindhede Park is next to it and should not be missed as well.
