“A classic in the making”
Reviewed 11 April 2012

The Fullerton is about to become a "classic" hotel in a matter of years: it occupies the former Post Office building in Singapore, probably 100 years old, which was painstakingly renovated and brought up to 5 star standard 10 years ago. It actually feels as if it had been a hotel all the way back to colonial times, with high ceilings, a nice and light inner courtyard and really big rooms.

My main attraction to The Fullerton, however, is the location. It is smack in the middle of the financial district, and even the brand new office buildings along Marina Bay are easily within walking distance. For leisure, stroll up the quay, have a drink at one of the bars, but don't fall into the tourist traps there.

Add the warm and very personal service as well as the overall feel of the hotel, and you have the ingredients for a classic hotel - for the years to come.

After not having stayed there for 7 years, I took an Easter special offer this time - with free breakfast (the x-large variant) and afternoon tea - an experience not to be missed. The room was huge, situated on the outside, but with no view - an outer wall shielded my balcony. In fact, the room was way too big for the 28" flat screen it has - they could upgrade that.

My favorite detail is the complementary shoe shine service - just put your shoes in the special compartment within your closet, and they will be returned shined and ready to go.

Overall, I can only recommend The Fullerton - if you can get it a decent rate.

Room Tip: If you don't care much for a view, take one of the inner courtyard rooms.

This is a luxury boutique hotel.

Nobody knows what that means, believe me. Luxury and boutique does not mix, often.

Puli hotel and Les suites orient in Shanghai are self proclaimed luxury boutique hotels. They are small, the room service menu only has 10 items and they are not 24 hours. The one in LSO certainly wasn't. Their decor are bland, minimalist, often dark and all too 4 star-ish. They often stress the 'service' and 'hospitality' part to cover what is missing in other areas: 5 star restaurants, grand lobby, great gym, great breakfast, and 24 hours room service.

The Fullerton bay hotel is the first one to prove that a luxury boutique hotel does exist. The design of the hotel itself emit an aura of luxury. The all glass windows and walls, the chandelier, the small details, this is luxury without the quirkiness and tackiness of a 30 something designer.
The service is excellent, from salam the doorman to rozy the concierge, the cleaners (who always replenish your nespresso capsules), room service, everyone. The menu, although a bit limited, does have a few delicious items on it.

The Location and the View are the main reasons you should choose this hotel. The view comes from the location. It is sandwiched between two cafe and restaurant complexes, fullerton one to the left and customs house to the right. In front of the hotel, stands Marina Bay Sands which you can easily walk to. Walking to the MBS is closest and easiest from this hotel than from Ritz millenia, MO or other hotels on their side. You can watch the MBS light show (which people staying IN the MBS cannot) from the hotel lobby, your room, most of the hotel restaurants, or most of the restaurants in Fullerton one or Customs House. Oh and you should try Forlino at Fullerton One, it is one of the best italian fine dining restaurant in Singapore. Another tip, stay away from the celebrity restaurants in MBS, (osteria mozza, bistro moderne, hideo yamamoto etc) they serve mediocre food at meteor prices. The only reason you would dine there is because you want to be seen. Or you didn't know better. Now you do. CUT is the only restaurant that serves good food, but the price is a bit insane.

Believe me, stay here and see what a luxury boutique hotel really means.

Room Tip: when you book the cheapest room, you are more exposed to the public from the windows.

The hotel is lovely if you are looking for a wonderful heritage expereince, but are prepared to pay for it. Enjoyed our recent stay at the Fullerton Hotel. Look for a good deal if you can find one as it's an expensive hotel. Rooms are very well appointed and quiet. Freash milk in th emini bar fridge would eb great for coffee. Great service. We didn't eat at the hotel as it was too expensive. Very well located on the river /Boat Quay. Nice pool overlooking the river. We discovered the bus stop right outside the hotel and caught buses everywhere, which was very convenient. The doorman helps with taxis but you may have to wait in peak times. Lots of good walking around the hotel. All in all, an enjoyable stay in a beautiful hotel.

A smart hotel minutes from the Marina Bay complex. Good food, spacious and well appointed rooms and a fab roof top pool.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the bay.

This was my second stay at the Fullerton which is a fantastic hotel centrally located and full of history. The property is a landmark and has an imposing effect both externally and internally. From the moment you arrive the service was excellent. Check-in was efficient and simple. The allocated room was first class on a corner with a split level and stairs down to the bedroom area. The windows were small but allowed sufficient natural light into the room and had a view out over the Marina to the Sands hotel.

The room was well furnished with a large flat screen TV, good desk and comfy chairs. The bed was excellent and very comfortable. All curtains and lights could be operated by controls by the bedside. The bathroom was modern with a full size bath, walk-in shower. The toiletries were of good quality and plentiful.

There restaurant on the ground floor where breakfast was served was large enough to cope with a good many people and provided tables inside and out although you needed to time it right to get an outside table. There was a good variety of food for the buffet breakfast and the only fault that I experienced was that the egg station could be a little slow sometimes. The bar was good for snacks a drink with friends. The cocktail bar outside was great place to spend an evening or have a night cap. The swimming pool was adequate and covered the maximum space available. The pool staff were attentive and very pleasant. It provided a good place to lounge around in down time.

The hotel fully deserves its 5 star rating and will stay there again when next in Singapore

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the Marina bay
