The staff was very helpful at all times. Nicely decorated rooms, but very little natural light and with ample overhead lighting, a bit dark at night. Lobby and common space are not exceptional, but the pool is lovely. The breakfast is very good, but the space is dark overall.

This was my first time in Singapore (5 day business trip), a friend recommended the Mandarin so I chose to stay there.
I flew into Changi early morning (7am) as my outbound flight from Germany was delayed. This turned out to be good luck as the airport was completely deserted, clearing immigration/customs was a matter of minutes. I took the MRT into the city center. If you think Germans are efficient wait until you come to Singapore. Signs, ticket vending machines, announcements on the train - all perfect. You can get off at City Hall and walk through the shopping centre directly to the hotel (follow the signs). Why - because the shopping centre is air-conditioned! You will end up at a small and concealed staircase directly next to the Mandarin. The trip was just 2 SGD plus 1 SGD deposit for the ticket (you'll get that back). If you chose to walk overground be prepared for the humidity and walk towards the Mandarin Bay Sands - then you can't miss the Oriental.
The hotel itself doesn't look promising from the outside (I was disappointed) and a bit old-fashioned from the inside. The reception was full in the morning because of many people checking out, but I did not wait too long. The receptionist was very friendly. A young lady accompanied me to my room and explained how everything works, when/where is breakfast, pool etc. Very good service! The room was spacy (I had a standard one to the back of the hotel - so no bay view) and immaculate. The air conditioning was turned to 18°C, a bit cold for my taste, so I adjusted it (I had to do this every evening, because the cleaner always reset it!). I didn't try the breakfast due to the time difference as Singapore morning was middle of the night for me and I didn't feel hungry.
You can walk to the financial district, just cross the big road in front of the hotel, then past/hrough the shopping centre and you'll be at the bay. From there just cross the bridge, all in all its about 20 mins walk. However I recommend you do that in the evening and take a taxi in the morning - that way you'll arrive fresh at work and it's less than 10 SGD.
All in all I had a very good stay, no complaints at all. Check out was easy, I could leave my luggage to pick up at the evening. If you feel hungry in the evening and don't want to travel too far I can recommend the restaurant at the bayfront directly next to the bridge. Also there are a few fast food places in the shopping centre.
On the way back to the airport I took a taxi - it is just 25 SGD. If I come back to Singapore again I'll probably stay in the Fullerton. It is situated much closer to the financial district and has a somewhat fresher look from the outside.

What a beautiful place to stay! Fresh flowers in the room, great hotel service, terrific breakfast buffet and one of the most amazing pools I've ever seen. Great views from the room as well. Great location to take a walk and check things out. LOVED this place, one of my favs.

Upon arrival, the doormen were asleep. The main foyer was overcrowded and obviously understaffed. Despite the high ceilings it seemed dark and there were no task lights to assist with completing check in documents. The long wait to check-in was a horrible way to start our stay and we considered leaving but in the end we stayed. ~~ We made the booking online and the check-in details were different from promised. The desk clerk advised us that they are "not responsible for internet bookings". Why not? If you contract the reservation bookings to outside then you have to monitor, accept feedback and take responsibility for what results. ~~ Finally we were able to make our way to the room. Sadly the rooms looked tired. The bathroom is cramped and the tub is too narrow for a man of 6'. Little by little the five star rating seemed to dip to four stars. ~~ Breakfast was a repeated daily buffet. Even on cruise ships they manage to find variety to their buffet. There were three of us staying at the hotel and we ordered tea each morning. Each morning there was a problem either getting tea, having more than one teapot for the three of us, or missing a cup or a spoon. It was annoying. The breakfast staff need training. ~~ The pool has a nice relaxing feel to it. It is a great place for an evening swim when you spend most of your day out shopping. It's unfortunate there is no bathing suit spin dryer in the changerooms. If you are a shopper, the nearby Marina Square Mall likely won't satisfy your craving. ~~ Lounge drink/food prices were not only above average but verged on sky high. ~~ Turndown service was intermittent. One night they arrived at 5:30 pm when we had not yet left for dinner. If you did not agree to the service then, no one returned later. ~~ At this point in time, WiFi should be included. ~~ Many things went unexplained. Staff need recurrency training in customer service. If you're looking for a four star experience, this is the place. We were expecting more.

Sadly our high expectations after reading rave reviews were not met .
Checked in to be told we had an upgrade, when we arrived the room had just been renovated and there was a really strong and overpowering smell of paint / chemicals which gave us headaches after 1 minute. Building debris in bathtub, sink, floor etc. What makes this worse was that the receptionist who had accompanied us to the room had gone in first to check it was okay and deemed it so...
Another room was found, but lower floor with not so great views, just okay, no wow-factor here.
Would not choose to stay here again.
