“Renovation needed”
Reviewed 4 May 2012

The location is nice, since it's a bit out of town and away from the hussle and the bussle to be able to sleep at night. Unfortunately there is no free drop off or pick up. You can take the local bus or a trycicle. It has a big swimmingpool which we thought is a big plus with the weather here. The food is good and the staff very helpful. We thought that the compimentary breakfast was good and enough, but it would be nice if you are able to pick your own fruit. The rooms are big, but the shower is rather smale in comparison. The place defenitely needs a bit of paint and the garden some touch ups, but overall it's an ok hotel to stay when you arrive or leave Puerto Princesa. They could do with new AC's, but we didn't really need it at night, since we would leave it on for a bit before sleeping to cool the place down enough.

This hotel could be very well but it is wear. The rooms are big and comfortable, it is quiet but my aircon was so noisy and i dont know why we cant open the windows !! It"s too bad cos the view is nice on the swimming pool.... The hotel is a bit far from the center, you need 10-15 minutes with tricycle.
The restaurant is good and quiet. The swimming pool is very big and clean but unfortunatly you have not enough long chair around....The staff is helpfull and friendly but the boss is not very friendly....
This hotel could be better.....

we arranged with the hotel, 2 weeks before, for airport pick up on arrival as we were arriving in puerto late. They confirmed they would meet us and took flight details. Alas no one was waiting for us so after 30 minutes of waiting we took a trike ourselves. Not a good start to the visit !
The room itself was very nice inside but as others have mentioned the tv reception was aweful. The pool and gardens are nice and dinner was generous in size, we had a seafood platter, chowder and calamari.
However, the complimentary breakfast was terrible. ?It's the meanest breakfast I've ever had. They would do better to charge for it and do it properly otr not do it at all. I fried egg, toast, jam and a small banana.

Room Tip: more for locals than foreigners

Great place for a family. The boys had a great time in the pool after a day of touring or adventure. The food at the hotel was absolutely spectacular! Great staff - very accommodating and helpful. A greatvplace to base out of for travel.

The hotel is really lovely and the fact that it is situated bit further away from the city propermakes it more relaxing and quiet. The pool and the nice garden is great for family with kids. I notice that there is always somebody cleaning the pool every day. As for the food, they were delicious and well prepared. Of course as the food is from the hotel it is more pricy than getting food from the restaurants outside but for me, with such good service, lovely ambiance and tasty food, I wouldn't pay anything less. The staff were very friendly and they really took your requests into consideration. There is always somebody greeting you with a smile. Our whole family loved staying in this hotel, considering we had 5 kids to constantly look after.

We also had the hotel arrange our tours, and i think this is one thing that i hope they can be more organised about. Mark, the owner, was very easy to talk with and took our special requests into account. But somehow i feel the staff involved in the tours should be well informed on what has been agreed between the client and the owners (e.g. Pricing, time, tour inclusion). There were some occasions when we were asked for extra charges by the guides for fees that should have been included in our tour already. on the bright side, Mark took care of sorting all the confusion in the expenses for us.

Regarding the rooms, they were great and big enough for the allowed number of persons. We had the privilege of staying at a villa and the other group stayed in a deluxe room. Both were nice and i would say in good condition. Some things to be added though like a shower curtain, some side table by the bed where you can lay your book or gadgets, also a small desk by the sink where you can put toiletries.

All in all, Royal Oberoi is such a beautiful place. I would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Villa for family is highly recommended.
