This was my 2nd visit to Sunset at Aninuan. The staff are amazing, friendly and courteous. The hotel is very comfortable, quiet and close to everything that you want. When you go there, you are like family and are treated extremely well. My wife and I will be back again and again.

Room Tip: Ask for the new wing or the refurbished rooms.

I came here with my Uncle, aunts and cousins. I haven't been back HOME since I was 13 (now 26). We came here right on my birthday. This was such a beautiful place! The staff are amazing ! Rooms were spotless and the location was absolutely stunning. It's right on the beach and it's away from the big party crowd in White Beach.

The food here is very expensive though. We ate here for lunch but we went to white beach for dinner. I wanted to taste and experience White beach.

Overall, we had a great time and I will definitely come back!!

This is my third visit to Peurto Galera. The Sunset Hotel was the worst of any hotel on that island that I have used. Our first room did not resemble the picture of the room we booked, and it smelled stale. We changed room and the second room was like that pictured on the website. The suite itself is spacious. The air conditioning struggled the entire three days we were there to keep the room cool.

The balcony only had seating for one person while other balconies had hammocks and small tables. The metal banister around the balcony was so rusted and rotted in spots. One of the metal railings on the main steps going to be beach has completely rotted away.

The bathroom linen did not smell fresh. The included breakfast is only for a Continental Breakfast. They did give us credit for the Continental Breakfast towards the breakfast we did order. But everything we ordered had a service charge. We ordered two cheeseburgers at the bar and the rolls were stale and the burgers were pressed extremely thin and then were rubbery and burned.

There are no telephones in the rooms and there is no room service. The kitchen closes at 9 PM. Something had broken or burst in our refrigerator. The hotel never bothered to even wipe out the mess. There were rusted and brown rings from the other cans that sat in the spill in the bottom of the refrigerator. There is no Internet in the rooms, and the wireless at the bar did not work when we tried it. We ended up using a Globe Filipino mobile phone and mobile phone hotspot to get any Internet service within the room.

The beach is not as shown. The water is clean. But the beach is full of small rocks and stones. This is not the type of beach you want to swimming in.

Room Tip: Choose a suite. At least you will have room to move about

We found Sunset at Aninuan back in 2013 and have gone back every year or sometimes twice a year since then. Back then, we were simply looking for a nice place to stay in Puerto Galera that is far removed from the noisy and busy party areas of White Beach. Aninuan Beach offered a great peaceful alternative but still had a location that is close enough to white beach if you're really itching to go out to drink. Their rooms are really nice and far from basic, each one with a porch/balcony (all facing the sea, with views of the sunset). The resort (and all their rooms) has been tastefully designed and there is no lack of furniture made for seaside lounging, both in rooms and on the beach. There are now even suites complete with full kitchen, living room, jacuzzi, den. The works! They have their own restaurant (two now) - with tables either in terraces or on the sand by the beach. There are many lounge chairs and recliners that face the beach. There's a library, a gym, a sports bar with billiards and darts, and now 3 swimming pools. They have a pingpong table and kayaks that you can borrow. They have a dive shop too if you want to learn diving.

The owners (Lexy and Mark) are very friendly too. We actually joined them on one of their treks to Mt. Malasimbo on our last visit and discovered how much they value the environment, sustainable living, and helping the local community.

I'd say Sunset at Aninuan is a perfect boutique hotel to stay in. BUT even without all the frills, the BIGGEST things that make Sunset a real gem are the BEAUTIFUL SUNSET VIEWS (unique and beautiful every day - the resort was aptly named), and the EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE by the staff.

Room Tip: All rooms have balconies that face the sea (sunset views) but I think the best views are from rooms in the New Building.
