“A city oasis in the dessert of traffic jam”
Reviewed 30 March 2012

We chose this hotel as it was number one hotel in Jakarta trip advisor list. However, as you see the building from outside it is outdated old building, I wondered why? The lobby is very small. Does not create any impression. Yet once start to check in you know it is a great hotel. Superb friendly and helpful staff, very spacious rooms and toilet. Great food. During our stay, the hotel arranged to bring a Michelin starred chef for three days!! I recommend this hotel to everyone.

The whole management team stayed here for our company's office opening and just are awed how consistent the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is globally. True in tradition to style, service and quality meant we are guaranteed to sleep well each night and have all our exacting demands met. The F&B manager went out of his way to organize Krispie Kreme doughnuts 12 pcs x10 boxes for us to take home to our kids when we did not have time to do shopping although we were surrounded by designer shops around because of unplanned meetings afterwards. Mandarin Hotel, I always feel like I am coming home when I stay with you. Thanks.

Room Tip: I stayed on the 16th floor and had a panaromic view of the roundabout with the fountain in the middl...

I stay in Jakarta 80 days a year in Hotels all around the city. I've lived in Jakarta for 15 years and know my way around a bit. Knew most of the Hotels when they were brand new.

I find the Mandarin to be one of the most underrated in Jakarta. Since the renovation, it has really made a HUGE step forward. The rooms are really good, nice size, good layout, very nice interior. Room service is good, check in is friendly and always happy to help if there is a problem (and there have been a few that they helped with).

Lounge is ok. Compared to other Hotels, they offer snacks around the clock, but bring out the drinks like all the others in the evenings. Orange Juice is the morning is the biggest problem, the container which they use just doesn't work. Its easier to catch rain with your hands and drink it than to wait for a glass to fill with that thing they use.

Restaurants are also ok but not great. Very good Thai Restaurant right behind it though if you don't mind walking on the street for about 3 min.

Next to the Hyatt, this is actually my favorite Hotel.

My husband and I were in Jakarta, school hunting. Booked 2 nights with club facilities. Room is nice. Club level is also nice. Service at club is so-so. I would say too short of manpower. There was only 1 lady during breakfast and was busy with someone. The orange juice container was empty and was only able to ask for a juice after 20min which is more than the usual time I spent at breakfast.
I booked a car with driver for the day and sent in the list of schools needed to visit. The list was only given to the driver just when he picked us up. He was lost trying to find the British School and fortunately we had our ipad with us (cost us a bomb) to track the school down. Thereafter was fine as he called up the location before setting off. I would have expected the hotel to provide the addresses of the schools to the driver and not wait for us to provide him the address and map.
On the morning of checking out. It took the lady at the club more than 15min to get the bill right. This means if you want to stay here, please allocate enough time to eat your breakfast and get your bill.
Buffet in the club for breakfast is not up to par. The local dishes are either too dry or too oily. Cocktail buffet is great. Not sure I will come back as the next time would still be school plus house hunting.
Room service is also so-so. As we return late, I ordered a salad and was thinking strange cobb salad, half way through the salad they return with the sauce.
Location is not ideal if house or school hunting. It took us 1 hr to get from Golden triangle to the hotel at about 6pm.
