Description: Spices is popular for its diversified and authentic Asian cuisine, tasteful Eastern design and wonderful garden setting punctuated by spacious green lawns and tropical blooms. The refurbished Spices boasts a new contemporary interior. Inspired use of natural materials, such as bamboo, teak, rattan, stone and coconut, in contrast with bold, vibrant colours gives the restaurant a distinct Asian identity. The lively and inviting space, evocative of a bustling Asian spice market, will undoubtedly enchant and inspire all the senses. Several landscape enhancements have also been made to The Garden - an outdoor section of Spices celebrated for being the finest venue for alfresco wining and dining in Hong Kong. The interior design improvements are complemented by an enriched menu of authentic Asian delights, prepared to perfection by the highly talented culinary team.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 January 2012

Spices has been an old favourite in Hong Kong. Regrettably there are very few restaurants on the South Side of HK Island, and this one serves a very large hungry public. But Hong Kong people are used to going in to town to have their meals. The food while good, the menu quite varied, from Thai, to Vietnam, India to Chinese, which makes it easy for most people to find something to eat, is not brilliant. Some dishes are very well executed like the pomelo salad with the soft shell crab, but while good, lacks authenticity. The restaurant plays to a Western rather than an Asian palate. I will rate the atmosphere 4 1/2 stars, as the indoors is very lovely, and better yet on the right evening, sitting outside is fantastic. Service is very variable, typical in the HK way of wanting to be efficient and pleasing yet tending to be disorganised.

“Where is the spice?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2012

A large group of us (over 10) went there on New Year's day and ordered a wide variety of dishes to share. These include several curries, tandoori salmon, mee noodles, morning glory stir-fried with garlic, naan, basmati rice, satay platter, warn and cold spring rolls, fish cake, grilled pork neck... so we got Vietnam, Thai, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India covered!

You should see the problem now -- a restaurant cannot possibly do justice to the national cuisine of so many different countries. It is paradise for the Hong Kong palate, but the death of authenticity.

To be fair, the food was delicious. But nothing was spicy. Not even the lamb rogan josh. Everything was sweet and charming. Dessert was very nice. Service was good, the setting beautiful. Everybody had fun. So it is a good choice for families (albeit a bit pricey).

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2011

Had wonderful lunch here. The food was excellent and there was a really good range. The view is exceptional but it was too hot to eat out so we sat in - and the decor is very attractive. Service was great. Would certainly recommned it as great for lunch and great for an outing - We got a taxi there from central HK - only cost £5 and took about 15 minutes.

“Okay food for the price paid”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2010

The food is good but the service is not very efficient. I ordered 2 drinks but they came a little bit "late". The glass of white wine - I have to ask again before the server remembered I ordered 1. It's good for once in a while occasion

Now re-opened after a refit (slightly nicer tables and chairs and out of place ceiling that has the unfortunate effect of looking like what the English call MDF). Quite expensive but is great for upscale Friday night Indian/Asian after a hard weeks work. Also good for taking visitors to HK if you live on HK Island. Great location in Repulse Bay in a colonial style building (must be one of the last in HK) with mega high ceiling height.

Wine expensive in very small glasses. Cost HK$900 (US$115) for 3 people (4 dishes, a few beers and glass of wine. Good size dishes. Could have done with just three.
