Food was great but getting your order is close to impossible if you don’t speak the language. The waitress practically ordered for us but to her credit, her selection was good! The place is a bit messy and crowded so be ready to be jostled.
Will come back if we could get a local to order for us!

Had shrimp dumpling (蝦餃), dumpling with pork and prawn (燒賣), barbecue pork rice roll (叉燒腸粉), lotus leaf rice (糯米雞) , steamed carrot cake (蘿蔔糕).  Well worth the quality for its freshness and crunchy-ness (QQ) and the value (costed HKD121.00 for 5 items)!

Rated 4-star instead of 5 because of hygienic level (stained and slippery).

On the surface Sun Hing is chaotic, uncomfortable and uneasy on the eye. However look a little closer and you’ll see that it offers so much more and will have you going back for more.

The first time I went was a baffling experience so I have added a few tips below.

This restaurant is busy and is not for those looking for a quiet meal. The buzz of the restaurant filled with locals is a great experience and that’s even before you’ve had the food.

Moving on to the food you’ll be able to get all the traditional dim sum dishes plus some lesser known dishes (I have no idea what they are as the waitress didn’t speak English). All the dishes were tasty and cooked fresh. The custard buns we’re especially good and the best I’ve ever had by a county mile.

Tip 1 - It’s busy so be prepared to queue if you go around the main meal times but the wait is worth it for full on Sun Hing experience.

Tip 2 - As far as I’ve been able to gather there is no menu, food is cooked, brought out on trays and placed next to the counter. The ladies who work there will generally offer the dishes to you before placing them by the counter. Make sure you take your bill with you if you go to the counter so they can mark down what you’ve had.

Tip 3 - I haven’t found anyone in there that speaks English so be prepared for some mystery dishes. A quick google of the dishes you want in Cantonese would go a long way.

Tip 4 - It’s cash only. The old boy behind the counter sometimes quotes the odd crazy price in the frenzy of multiple people barking at him to settle their bill. He’s not trying to rip you off so be patient and he’ll quote the correct price eventually. (6 dishes cost us around 150 HKD).

Places like Tim Ho Wan are much better known and famous for their dim sum but Sun Hing holds its own with its local charm and some outstanding dishes.

Try the “early tea” if you want to experience the traditional Hong Kong style breakfast. The breakfast started as early as 4am and have lots of choice of dim sum.
The waiters do not speak English so it’s better for you to bring a local friend with you.
Shrimp dumpling (蝦餃), pork siu mai (燒賣), pig liver siu mai (豬膶燒賣) and deep fry milk (炸奶) are my all time favourites.

Opens at 3am - 4pm
Caters to the early waking elderly as well the late night owls from Hong Kong University nearby! Great freshly made dimsum and friendly for the wallet
Strongly recommended, but remember to arrive early to ensure a seat!
