The Salisbury YMCA is ideally situated at the tip of Kowloon, right next to the ritzy Peninsula Hong Kong. For a fraction of the price of its high-end neighbor, the YMCA is hard to beat. Get a Harbour View Room for great views of Central and the nightly "Symphony of Lights". The Star Ferry terminal is a mere five minute walk away. The Tsim Sha Tsui MRT stop is next to the hotel. Rooms are nice and well apportioned; don't let the YMCA name scare you away or have you envisioning thoughts of staying at a dingy dormitory. The A21 Cityflyer bus, offering free wi-fi on board, can whisk you from or to the airport for a measly $33 HKD each way, with the stop a mere two blocks away from the YMCA; why take the Airport Express and shuttle transfer combo for almost three times the price? The only major downside to the hotel is that wi-fi is not free; expect to pay $40 HKD for four hours in your room or $15 HKD for 15 minutes at the internet corner downstairs. Or, walk across the street to the 1881 Heritage outdoor shopping plaza and avail yourself of the free wi-fi there.

The room we stayed at was really not worth the 120 euro we had to pay for it.
The bathroom was old and scuffy. The room decent but nothing special.
Location is unbeatable though as we had views to the skyline and it is next to Nathan Road and the Star ferry.
No internet for free and if you wanted it you had to buy a minimum of 4 hours in a row. really strange for such an upmarket hotel.
In mainland China we mostly had free wifi in our room, even in much cheaper guesthouses.

This is an excellent Hotel - it is NOT a YMCA but a proper Hotel and located a 5 min walk to the Ferry and just 2 blocks from the beginning of Nathon Road - so an ideal location.

Rooms are much more modern than the outside of the Hotel and very comfortable, yet very reasonably priced. They also supply a full cooked breakfast and cater for all nationalities, as absolutely everything is on offer to eat.

Definitely recommend this Hotel.

Stayed in a harbour view 1br suite one night post cruise.

The Sailsbury, as all the other reviews will state, has the best location in town - it does.
They may say how you can get the exact same room here as next door at the Penninsula or the Intercon for 1/3 the price - not exactly.

The hotel is located right at the harbour front in Tsim Sha Tsui - and very close to the cruise terminal, MTR stations and the Star Ferry Terminal. The lobby is renovated in a pacific north west style and reasonably clean and modern. The building is still used as a YMCA meeting / church / youth centre so expect huge amounts of comings and goings. The pool and gym facilities are all open to the public as well as guests.

For those also coming off a cruise, because baggage claim from the ships is all done at the rear of the cruise centre with no easy foot access to the street - walking to the hotel is not an option (even if only a couple hundred meters). The cab driver may grumble at you for the short fare.

The hotel were happy to store our bags (due to early arrival) and check us in later in the day. Upon entering the suite, I was impressed by its large size - an absolute rarity in the Hong Kong hotel scene. The view over Hong Kong harbour was impressive - though being allocated a room on a low floor, it was slightly obstructed by the building opposite. The furnishings were average Ikea quality and design (blonde wood / glass surfaces) very 3 star. The bathroom was huge but with no window or natural light - as a result it felt a touch cavernous. The room was very clean and the bed one of the biggest I have ever seen.

Unfortunately, our stay was defined by a rather large negative: On arrival into our suite we found a note on the table advising that the room would be without electricity from midnight until 7am. Accompanying the note was a flash light. As we had a 7am flight the next morning - which would require getting up and getting ready at 4am, having no electricity was going to be a problem. A call to management resulted in being offered a room at the back of the hotel facing the street - a bit of a come down from the harbour view suite we had booked / paid for and looked forward too. When I advised this was not an option - a compromise was reached by the manager allowing us access to a (electricity equipped) hospitality room in the morning when we needed to get ready... for the inconvenience, he reduced the room rate by appox $30.. a gesture.. but far from ideal.

Ultimately, this is not a 5 star hotel like its neighbours - and claims that you "get the same room for 1/3 the price" are erroneous. You get the location, you get the view - but you most certainly do not get the quality of product or service. Though for those on a budget without need for all the trimmings - this is ideal.

Room Tip: Spend the extra dollars and get a harbour view suite - it will be worth it. Make sure you request a...
