“really let down by the service”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

We travelled with a toddler and were disappointed overall. We had booked a suite to allow us some space once the baby was asleep. The first room we were allocated didn't have a bath, the second had single bed, the third (despite assurances it was.non smoking stank of stale smoke). We didn't have the energy to move again but not the greatest start! We were also missold a breakfast package which they charged us more than agreed for. The room was ok. V small - there is no way there would be space for a cot in a normal room. The first room had a broken chair and there were random hairs on the floor in places.

The staff were noticeably less friendly/ helpful than in other places.

The suite did have a little kitchen which was useful travelling with a young child.

Breakfast was also fine - a good range and ok quality.

Location was ok...consider whether you would rather stay on the Central side. Proximity to the star ferry to Central was a plus. Views of the HK skyline are also better from Kowloon.

Room Tip: Consider a suite if you like walking on the floor rather than the bed

I travel to HK around once a month and have stayed in many hotels there, mostly in Kowloon.

The only reason I stayed at the Harbour City was for its proximity to Hung Hom station and the train to Guangzhou.

First impression wasn't bad. Check in was slow but that's often the case in many better hotels.

Then the fun started.

The bellboy who brought up my luggage actually stood in the foyer until he was tipped. I usually always tip the bellboys something, but this was at 1.30 am, I was tired and didn't have change handy. Plus its is rude and unacceptable for hotel staff to stand in a room foyer, with the door closed, waiting for a tip.

Second, the air conditioners didn't work. We had two suites; rooms 2008 and 2010 and the bedroom air conditioners didn't work in either bedroom.

I called housekeeping, who called maintenance and they assured me after inspecting the air conditioners, that they’d kick in after 30 mins.

Of course it didn't and I had a terrible night.

Breakfast is okay but overpriced.

Check out was slower still.

The following morning I walked over to Hung Hom, the only positive aspect of this hotel is its proximity to the station.

But even that will never ever bring me back here.

As another reviewer put it, this is a cattle market.

I think ive said it all.

Great bed in a small basic room..
No bath but a strong shower walk in...
A great location that you can genuinely walk to the station from (via the link mall) undercover in under 5 minutes...saved me getting drowned!

I would not say anymore than average rooms, but the location was great for hopping around in and out of china...

I had a 2 week stay so the review reflects multiple dimensions

Location: Yes, it is not at the hub of Tsim Sha Tsui BUT location is still a plus for the hotel.
------------

Opposite the hotel is the Hung Hom Metro stop which being a major stop has multiple lines coming onto it. Tsim Sha Tsui is 1 stop away. If that does not work for you, then the very efficient and free hotel shuttle there works well. Do keep your room key with you as they often ask for it.

Under/adjacent to the hotel is a big mall - banks, shops, restaurants - doesn't get easier. In case you do not want to do the breakfast package, plenty of choices exist in the mall

If you are visiting the university PolyU - its right across as a 2 min walk

Rooms
---------

Go for the Harbour View rooms and go for >19 the floor - you'll not see the main HK island profile unless you are >19 but will still get a nice view of the harbour

Rooms are adequate for 1-2 people; The Club Floor is worth the price for the lounge - excellent selection of snacks and free Wifi

For families the Family Suites are much larger and come with a kitchen space. They are not particularly expensive either.

Pool/Gym:
------------
Both are nice and it must be the other HK distractions as I found it wonderfully empty on virtually all days :-)

Misc
-----
Wifi is HK 130 which I think is pricey. If you are on the lounge floor, the lounge access is free. In the general rooms, depending on location - there were ample free networks in the 50+ networks showing there

The hotel offers as Wifi+Breakfast package for HK 360/day - that's pricey. They would do better to offer a lower cost Wifi option for longer term visitors. Breakfast buffet is nice but does get crowded. If you are staying for a longer period, there are tons of cheaper options in the mall or at Hung Hom

Room Tip: >19th floor for better Harbour views Family Suite for space Club Floor rooms for snacks and fre...

I traveled to Hong Kong about 8 times in the past 3 years and stayed at the harbour plaza 4 times. This is by far my favorite hotel in HK.

I always book a room with balcony on the 8th floor. The rooms are small but this is a given in Asia. The rooms are very modern and clean. The hotel is located in front of the kwoloon train station and about 20 minutes walk from Nathan road. You are less than 5 minute walk from the harboor which is give you the most beautifull view of HK island

The facilities are outstanding. The swimming pool is huge and looking out the harbor. Fitness club has tons of equipement. The food is great and breakfast buffet is massive.... If you take a room with baclone, you will have you private tub outside... Very usefull when you consider the temperature in HK.

I would definitely recommend this hotel as my first choice for HK.
