“Great hotel, location and staff”
Reviewed 11 March 2012

I stayed here for work and have to say that it is a really nice property. Beautiful comfortable rooms and beds, nice big desk, and the breakfast was good too.

The only negatives:
- I checked in late at night and they isn't have my chosen room (king NS) available. By hey said the smoking rooms aren't bad and put me in one of those first. Not good. The smoke smell was awful. They then switched me to a room with 2 single beds that as NS. It was ok.
- when you check in they bring you a welcome tea to your room, as I was in really late and just wanted to sleep, I couldn't wait to get the guy out of my room..

We have always found this hotel well kept from the quite stunning lobby through to the inner recesses of our bathroom. The beds are comfortable as are the pillows. The rooms we have had have been quite spacious.

There are several restaurants in the hotel. Japanese, Chinese, Italian tastes are catered for and an international buffet is on offer. The food that we have tried has always been good. We tend to distrust food in buffets but in the Cafe Kool there are a number of stations where you can choose and watch your choice being cooked. A selecton of dishes from the other restaurants are available through in room dining.

The rooms are overlooking Victoria Harbour have excellent views of Hong Kong Island.

If you can afford it, the Horizon Club is a haven after a day in the hustle and bustle of the city.

Another "if you can afford it" that is well worth choosing is the transfer from the airport in one of the Hotel's limousines. After a 13 hour overnight flight, it is pure luxury to be looked after from the time you leave customs right through to check in (made simple as they know you are about to walk into the hotel).

The location of the hotel is good with the shops on Nathan Road and the Ocean Terminal up market mall with in easy walking distance. (There is a htoel shuttle that will deliver you and collect you and you shopping.) An MTR station is close by. The walk along the Avenue of the Stars to the Star Ferry Terminal is always teaming with tourists and, if you look as though you might speak English, children who will be trying their skills on you. (This time we were quizzed by a group from Mainland China.)

Late check-ins fine. Concierge brilliant. Bell boys fantastic. Tapas bar excellent.

The views of the harbour and island (if the skies are clear) are un-beatable.

Great location and great service - all in a great city. You'd be really mad NOT to stay here.

Great airport pick up, but followed by rude reception experience. We had been booked into a room for quadruple occupancy by our agent - the reception told us this was not correct. They then tried to fob us off with a room on a non-smoking floor that stunk of fags and that was next to the surprisingly noisy lift shaft, saying they would put in two temporary beds. Only with the help of the bell boy were we able to get the room moved as reception (9 floors down) assured me the room I was standing in did not smell of smoke!

We were all tired after a long flight and just wanted to get some food and go to bed. We were advised that the buffet meal running in the restuarant would enable us to get fed quickly and with food the kids would be happy to eat when tired. We sat down in the busy restaurant and helped ourselves to a quick light meal. Stunned to receive the bill which equated to over £120 for a couple of plates of pasta, a bowl of noodles, a bit of sushi & a couple of puddings!
Clearly the buffet - the quality of the food and service was great - was ideal for a large blow out meal, but not a quick light bite before bed!

Things did get better thereafter, but I never quite forgave them for the poor start to our time in Hong Kong.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the lift shaft & take care to
