“Slightly dated, but wonderful friendly service”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

This was our third trip to HK and we chose this hotel due to it being part of Mandarin Oriental group (we stayed recently at MO, Singapore). We chose a room on the executive floor. This costs more but gives you an improved room and use of the executive club. Being part of this club entitles you to complimentary breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and cocktails. Also free coffee, beer and soft drinks all day. In other words much more than the upgrade cost. On checking in we were offered an upgrade to a suite for $400HK per day. Fantastic value for an very large room and separate living room and kitchen. A few extra goodies were delivered to the room. The location of the hotel, overlooking Victoria Harbour to Kowloon is perfect. Easy access to the MTR/trams/buses a few streets away. Lots of restaurants and shops close by but, surprisingly, very few bars. The bars in the hotel are expensive but your Exec Club membership gives you 20% off drinks and food in the hotel. We ate once at the hotel's cantonese restaurant 'Yee Tung Heen' and it was excellent.
Downside of the hotel is that it is fairly old with rather brutal architecture. The rooms are slightly dated but very clean. The bathroom is very small with a difficult to control shower over the bath. Whilst that was quirky it did not bother us too much. All in all, a very good hotel with extremely pleasant and helpful staff.

Room Tip: Front room overlooking harbour. Upgrade to an Executive floor - it's worth the extra.

We decided on this, our 3rd trip to Hong Kong, to stay on the island and chose The Excelsior because of its close proximity to shops, restaurants, MTR, trams, buses and of course the harbour view.

Check-in was smoothly and efficiently handled, our room (on the 18th floor) was larger than expected, with a comfy king sized bed, with large soft pillows. There was a 2 seater couch, an armchair, a very roomy working desk, luggage bench, large wardrobe, mini bar, etc., and the bathroom, although small, was well fitted out. The view out over the harbour was mesmerising.

We enjoyed the buffet breakfast each morning - wow, what a huge variety of foods. Loved the freshly squeezed fruit or vegetable juice bar. We had a drink at TOTTS and enjoyed it so much, decided to eat there the first night of our stay. Very delicious meal! Unfortunately the Dickens Bar was closed for renovation during our stay so we didn't get to check this out. Can recommend the little coffee shop by the lifts - very tasty snacks and great coffee!

A special thanks to the ladies on the housekeeping staff for the bookmarks you left by our novels on the bedside tables. Very thoughtful!

Room Tip: Make sure you book a full harbour view room.

I stayed at this hotel for one month whilst in HK for business. As others have noted, the location is nearby to many restaurants and shooping. The subway (MTR) and cabs provide good access to the rest of greater Hong Kong. The Dickens Pub (downstairs) has reasonable prices and decent food. The breakfast buffet has excellent choices of western and Asian foods - - a welcome variety for my extended stay. Service at the restaurant, pub and front counter was great. The view from the rooftop bar (especially at night) is excellent but prices are also high!

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor and views over the harbour to Kowloon or towards Central - - always something...

Convenient location - near Causeway Bay MTR station, shopping malls, restaurants, etc. Rooms are small as in all HK hotels. There is an airport shuttle bus that comes here.

Have stayed in this hotel for a week.

The location is excellent given the close proximity to shopping centers, food and mtr.

The downside is that it is very noisy due to some construction in the hotel and the service is quite slow. Also, there are lots of people loitering around at the lobby which makes the place looks very messy
