“A very special experience”
Reviewed 14 April 2012

We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental for 4 nights over Easter to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and have to say that the service we experienced made it a trip to remember. At check-in we were upgraded to a Harbour Room on the 19th floor and were taken up to our room by the charming young man who checked us in. He showed us the room facilities then returned with a complimentary tray of tea, just perfect after a 12 hour flight. A little later, champagne and chocolates arrived as a gift from the management! We sat at our harbour view window in our bathrobes sipping champagne and really relaxed! We ordered room service as we were too tired to go out - it was very prompt and wonderfully presented. The housekeeping service was excellent - even placing Mandarin Oriental bookmarks in our paperbacks on the bedside tables to replace our tattered boarding card stubs! and placing MO slippers on little mats beside the bed at night. I loved the bathroom, especially the TV screen inside the revolving mirror so you could watch TV from the bath, the shower or the loo :) The breakfast buffet was also excellent with an extensive range of fresh fruit on offer as well as the usual cereals, pastries, breads and a hot food selection; the coffee was good and strong! We had a drink at the M bar one evening and had a great view of the light show, along with a couple of young families who popped in to watch the lights but didn't bother with the drinks! As we were staying over the Easter weekend, we came back to our room on the Saturday to find a beautiful chocolate easter chick atop a box of chocolates, and complete with a chocolate eggshell and a row of little sugar coated eggs with different chocolate truffle fillings - so delicious. I would say that the MO is certainly the best hotel I have ever stayed in - the room and facilities were excellent and the level of service puts most other places in the shade. I would love to return.

On a recent trip to Hong Kong I again stayed at the Oriental Mandarin, everything about this hotel is simply 1st class and there is no need to even consider staying anywhere else!

We had selected Mandarin Oriental for a long weekend in Hong Kong with three teenage children. From the time we apprached the transport staff at the arrival hall at the airport, all our experiences throughout our stay at the hotel and back to the airport we were impressed by the exceptionally professional and friendly staff we met.

As an example, we were brought to our two rooms as we arrived at the hotel. We were given smoking rooms. We were not sure, but believed we had booked non-smoking rooms and kindly asked if they had any non-smoking rooms available. Immediately and without any more questions asked the staff checked if non-smoking rooms were available, found two new rooms and even upgraded us to two junior suites. I don't think I have ever experience a more speedy and no fuss treatment - just excellent.

The breakfast buffet is great with a wide selection and very attentive and friendly staff. The rooms are tasteful and well maintained. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean. The room maid has great attention to details when the room is cleaned in the morning and when the beds are turned in the evening with small surprices on the bed - as this was during Easter we also go Easter eggs.

The hotel has a good location for shopping on the Island and for taking a trip to the Peak. It also has easy access to the underground and it is easy to get to all parts of Hong Kong.

This is a place we can recommend to anyone, knowing they will not be disappointed.

What an absulute pleasure it is to stay at this Hotel. Attention to detail is amazing and nothing is any problem. I brought my own bottle of champagne to share with friends in room prior to dining at Mandarin Bar + Grill. At their suggestion, bottle was taken away, chilled, and at the appointed time arrived with ice bucket and chilled glasses, opened and poured.
We had Mandarin Bar + Grill tasting menu. What an amazing experience ! All the senses were heightened. Some whimsical presentations, some brilliant taste surprises, every dish an absolute delight. This restaurant deserves more Michelin stars. Executive chef Uwe Opocensky is world class.

Room Tip: Rooms with harbour view
