One of the strangest experience in my 25 years of travelling all over the world.......upon arrival at the hotel, the entrance of the hotel was blocked by ambulances, fire brigades and a gas leak, but according to the hotel staff, nothing wrong. Well, me and my travel partners did not sleep well. During the night there were sirenes again and stopped in front of the hotel. The hotel did not communicate anything at all. Also not the next day.

The rooms are fine for the single traveller. Breakfast is average, staff at breakfast very friendly. Staff at reception almost rude. Arrival and departure, both times unfriendly staff.

Room Tip: location is good if you use the taxi or shuttle bus from hotel

A decent hotel at the west of the island. The room is very clean and comfortable, room size not very big but considered spacious at HK standard. The design is nice, especially the window bench with cushion and the window blind. The staffs are friendly and speak fluent english.
The location is not perfect but it can be something special. A lot of locals stay at the area, you can experience their daily life by strolling the few streets outside the hotel. Restaurant, fast food chains, banks, bakery shops, local market are just around the corner.
SheungWan and Central are just 5-10 mins away by taxi, or 10-20 mins by bus. There are also buses that go to Admiralty, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay from the bus stop near to hotel. The hotel also provides shuttle bus to SheungWan MTR, HK station and other location. The best way to reach the hotel from Airport is by bus A10, alight at the bus stop just 100m away from hotel.
This hotel may not be ideal for traveller who plan to spend more times outside HK island, at least until the West Island MTR is completed in 2 years time.

Do not have convenient public transportation around. Room is small, but relatively clean and tidy. I didn't seen any good service during my stay. The girl at the reception seems not very friendly to us. The price was not expensive, but I don't think the value is good either.

Room is spacious for HK standard and location is great (nearby some shopping venues). However I was there for a trade fair in HK Trade Centre so it wasn't exactly in the neighbourhood.

Despite a slightly out-of-the-way location, Traders (part of the Shangri La Group) isn't a bad hotel at all...but it could be so much better with a little effort. From the minute we walked into the first floor reception on arrival, it was clear that the staff had been briefed to get us to upgrade our room first, with thoughts for our well-being coming second despite us being at the end of a VERY long journey from the UK.
The staff when we checked-in were polite and efficient but sell us an upgrade they did - and although it was a nice room, it certainloy wasn't worth the cost of the upgrade, despite the stunning view over HK harbour.
The room entitled us to use of the Traders club on the top floor (below the roof-top swimming pool) but here again it was clear that the attention to detail was more geared towards constantly checking that we were meant to be there as well as an adherence to time-keeping at the expense of any genuine feeling of welcome and warmth.
Maybe it should just be treated as a business hotel at which it probably does an excellent job. For tourists, find somewhere more welcoming and friendly.
The room itself was spotlessly clean although it was infuriating not to have a powerpoint next to the bed so that a mobile phone could be charged during the night while still being accessible. It was also very annoying that there wasn't a proper door separating the bedroom from the minuscule shower and toilet facilities. Noise transference was a big issue, at least for us.
Overall, although we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and made sull use of the hotel's excellent complimentary minibus - we never felt totally welcome nor did we find anywhere to 'kick-back' and relax as there is no comfy bar in which to sit and have a quiet drink as the bar/snackbar are part of the cold, clinical reception which feels more like the entrance to a multi-storey car park.
I have stayed at Traders in Kuala Lumpur and found this to be a far more pleasant experience than the one in HK.
