We used CotaiJet on a recent trip to Macau and thought it was time for an update on this ferry boat. Having used the NW First Ferry (operated by TurboJet) and Turbojet ferries recently as well, we still feel the CotaiJet boats are in better (newer) condition than the others, making them slightly better boats to use for your trip between Hong Kong and Macau. However, the difference between the boats is not very much and the price for the journey is about the same.
We opted for the first class tickets this time around. As the boats are pretty much the same, we had basically the same arrangement as with first class trips on the NW First Ferry and TurboJet boats in the past. We were seated at a table, in the upstairs seating area, with reclining seats which are nice but not hugely necessary when you are on just a 50-60 minute ferry journey. In the first class section, staff provide you with a corn flavored cup noodles and our choose of beverage including soft drinks and beer. Again, nice but not particularly important on a short journey like this.
The best benefit of going first class with CotaiJet, same with the others, is that they allow you to exit the ferry first, before the standard class ticket holders, allowing you to make a beeline to the immigration area in Macau, which is notoriously slow. This can save you noticeable time clearing immigration queues and moving out of the ferry terminal to start your sightseeing in Macau. If you are only here for a day trip, all time is valuable so this makes first class a good option.
Costs for first class seats are HK$228 instead of HK$178 for standard class tickets. In terms of the journey experience, if you are a large family, its not worth the extra spend in our opinion but if you want more comfortable seats and the ability to beat the crowds to the immigration line in Macau, it may be worth the extra spend.
