“Amazing hotel; a bit far from the center”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2012

This hotel is really stunning: great design, good service, very high tech (sometimes a bit anecdotic).
The rooms are amazing (I had the chance to be upgraded to a suite).
The bar at the roof top is cool and busy, with great view.
Gym club and pool are a bit small but fine
The hotel is just a bit out of the city, which may be great if you want to avoid the noise of the city!

Room Tip: the higher, the better!

My husband and I stayed there very briefly and really liked it. Modern, clean, comfortable, great views, very conveniently located. The room itself was spacious. Most people have heard of an open kitchen but not an open bathroom...well, it wasn't exactly open but I'd say semi open...the sink was behind a transparent partition but it is tastefully done in a way that suited the modern design of the place and maximized space. Indeed the hotel is not in the popular areas like TST, Central, Causeway Bay, but this is reflected in the clientele and target market. It is located right by Taikoo MTR, from which you can get to Causeway Bay in 15 minutes (on the same line) and a few more to Central. Taikoo itself has many international retailers, a very large supermarket in the basement (City Plaza), and lots of restaurants to choose from. Staff are very helpful and polite. Now residing in HK, I have been to the Sugar bar on the 32nd floor a few times and would recommend it for the view and relaxed atmosphere (the hostesses are helpful and efficient...bar staff, so so). The semi buffet in Feast (restaurant on the first floor) is recommended too. Again, the waiting staff there are great: helpful and polite. No foie gras, snow crab legs or lobsters that many hotels offer (favoured by many locals as it's "value" but instead, simple foods using quality fresh healthy ingredients (like Italian food, not fussy, just simple because the ingredients themselves are good enough without all the sauce/marinade/overcomplicated cooking). Staying on the East side of the island, try venturing around that part of HK! 2 stops away is Shau Kei Wan, where there are a few temples (i.e. Shing Wong, Tin Hau temple) dotted around (much smaller but MUCH less touristy than Wong Tai Sin!) and there are numerous restaurants worth checking out along Shau Kei Wan Main Street East, plus there is the HK Museum of Coastal Defense (for those who are interested in history).

Thank you very much for your review and we are very pleased to learn that you and your husband had a good time with us.

I really like your comments in regards to Feast semi buffet as this is exactly what we want to offer - simple things done well. We have a new Executive Chef who joined us few months ago and perhaps you can have another meal at Feast next time when you visit us. I'm positive that you would love Colin's new ideas of menus and cooking too.

I haven't been to the HK Museum of Coastal Defense myself but glad that you found it interesting. I think the Quarry Park within walking distance to the hotel is also a nice place to do exercise or simply relax yourself with a nice harbour view.

Once again, we thank you for your patronage and if there is anything we could do to make your next visit even more enjoyable, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Best regards

Second business trip to Hong Kong and second time I stay here, and I love it. In the Eastern part of Hong Kong island, connected to one otheir best shopping malls (Tai Koo Shing) in that area.
The hotel has around 32 floors, so many rooms have impressive views, with floor to cealing windows and pretty compact and functinal rooms - love the walk-in shower with a huge shower head and enought room to jog around.
The hotel's restaurant serves great food and the bar on the 32 floor serves great coktails and snacks until 2am, and the views from its ample terrace are very Hong Kong, i.e. breathtaking.
The hotel also offers 24-hour room service - with a pretty good varied menu and I really enjoyed relaxing in their large 5-floor swimming pool. The Fitness centre is well equipped too, so all in all i've had a great stay both times and thouroughly recommend it.

Room Tip: Sometimes the air con in rooms can smell, so check this before you fully commit to your room as it...

Stayed at EAST several times and it's got the full package: Great modern design, great and functional rooms, great views, great service, very affordable, amazing food @ Feast and a very cool and up-and-coming rooftop bar!

Room Tip: Get a harbour view corner room and enjoy the view!

As you can see from my list of reviews, I am now quite exposed to different types of acommodations, and without a doubt, East Hong Kong was one of the most pleasant surprises I have had in a while.

The work comform has no match for this property. Its rooms are very welll designed, so the lack of space is compensated by a smart, chic, and very well achieved distribution and feel.

The beds were very comfortable, and so was the ambiences that you could create with the well designed lighting system around the room. I found the conrollers near the bed very easy to understand, convenient to use and very practical.

As soon as you enter the room (I was in one of the standard, harbour view bedrooms) you see a large closet that serves a double purpose of storing clothes, and also a hidden mini-bar. Then you see immediatly to your side a hall with your "integrated" bathroom, with the sink and vanity quite exposed, and then in two separate rooms, the toilet and the most amazing shower I have used in a while.

Going straight, to the right, there was a long bench with 3 very convenient drawers for storing clothes and 1 containing a horizontal safe. then you see the office space, very conveniently setup, and above that, a frame that when you slide it, unveils a Panasonic HD television.

Opposite to all that, was the King-size bed, with two convenient floodlights on top and two reading lamps on the side to set the right mood. To the side of the beds, are individual light controllers for the entire room, having a great "night" mode that turns on dicrete accent lights around the bed, the bed frame, the bathroom area and others. You can also turn all of the lights on creating a more bright environment.

The room's front facing wall to the street are all HUGE windows, and you have a wonderful setting next to the bed that closes or open automatically shades that make the windows completely opaque for a good night sleep (perfect to adjust yourself to the time change).

The restaurant was really good, the Sugar bar was chic, well priced and had a wonderful atmosphere and its Gym and pool were top nothc (although the equipment is not abundant, so expect delays specially in the mornings).

For those of you business folks, the Internet connections and services on the hotel were great, fast and reliable.

So all and all, this hotel surpassed my expectations, and I would totally recommend it.

Some of the things I think are not so great about this property, is that it is far from where all happens, the good news is that the hotel sits on top of the Tai Koo station, so gtting in and out is not so hard. but the ride to Caseway Bay is like 10 minutes and to the rest of the main attractions in HKG Island, around 20 - 25 minutes commute.

I have to say though that I liked this isolation for my time of retreat as it disconnected me from the business of the other areas of Hong Kong.

I would say, give it a chance!

Room Tip: if you can, get rooms from floors 18 and up, as they offer the best level of privacy.
