To avoid crowds take an early bus from dongzimen bus station, number 916. After an hour reach a town from there it's a 50 yuan cab ride. Then buy shuttle, entrance and cable car tickets for 180 yuan all up. Reach by 9 and you are sorted. Was freezing up there so take jackets. Highlight of China trip.

Who doesn’t want to go to the Great Wall of China!?

We braved a 2 Hour drive from the coast to Beijing and then another two hours up to the Great Wall .

We had to climb several flights of stairs to get to the cable car. Even after we got off the cable car we had to climb several flights of stairs up to the great wall. These are not normal stairs—sometimes they are steep ramps and sometimes they are uneven.

We were very surprised to find out that when we went (April 2018) there was snow on the great wall. We had to buy gloves scarves and hats at the gift shop and spent over $100.

There are several places along the wall where you can walk that are treacherous, steep, and utterly dangerous. There’s one place we can climb onto the roof on a staircase that is ridiculously steep and only a few people bothered to do it.

So if you come bring your big boy pants! (Or big girl pants) My wife was able to do it all but some of the members of our party were not.

I don’t know if anybody reads trip advisor anymore so if you get this please. Click helpful. It sends me me an email and puts a smile on my face makes me want to keep review!

My visit to great wall Mutianyu section was good but could have been amazing if I would have opted for a private tour. I went on chair car to level 6 but was constrained due to time restrictions. I suggest going to level 14 on a cable car.
