We chose Courtyard 7 as we wanted to have a more authentic Beijing experience. It certainly did not disappoint. The location in the Hutong area is such a plus while the hotel itself is very comfortable. We had a deluxe room and it was good. We don't mind a firm mattress so found the bed very comfortable and huge! The hotel is certainly not 5 star but very comfortable nonetheless. As we learnt more about the Hutong area and got a feel for how the locals live, we felt very fortunate to have been able to stay amongst them in what is considerable comfort by comparison. There is a real sense of community in the Hutong area and it is great to be able to wander the streets in your down time and take it all in. At night the main street has a great buzz with loads of small bars, restaurants and shops to wander in and out of. Given traffic in Beijing can be a nightmare, it was nice after a full day of sightseeing to be able to stay close to home but still have variety all within walking distance. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't get this if you stay in one of the big hotel chains. As another reviewer said, it is all about expectations, and we found all the other comments managed ours well and we have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone who wants a more authentic experience but with a few creature comforts as well. Another tip, we had the hotel arrange for a driver to pick us up at the airport and although you pay more than a taxi it won't break the bank (CNY 240) and it made for a stress free arrival as the location can be difficult for some taxi drivers to find or indeed get close to (as the Hutong streets are very narrow and full of pedestrian traffic).

Room Tip: Spring for a deluxe room if your budget will stretch that far as you face the main courtyard and the...

We arrived in Beijing on the 1st October and the taxi (organised by the hotel) to get to Courtyard 7 through the alleys (hutongs) was a challenge as the hutongs were full of people celebrating the Chinese holidays. Once we got to the Courtyard 7 hotel it was so quite and couldn’t believe that it was in the middle of all the busy hutongs. We had a superior room (western wing house facing the courtyard) and it was beautifully decorated (in traditional Chinese style), clean and comfortable. The room had A/C (didn’t use as the wether was very pleasant) and included free Wi-Fi and breakfast (buffet). Hotel staff was very friendly, polite and most of them spoke perfect English (at the reception as well as the restaurant). There were tables/chairs in the courtyard and it was relaxing to sit outside (and have a cup of tea or coffee). This hotel is in Doncheng district and is a perfect location to visit Forbidden City, Tian'anmen Square, Wangfujing Street and more.

The hotel restaurant offered a decent selection of Chinese and western food and they were reasonably priced. We really enjoyed the fruit platter, which had (plenty of) seasonal fruits.

We really enjoyed our stay at Courtyard 7 and we can recommend any one who is looking for a quite and relaxing place in Beijing.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at courtyard 7. You get the feel of an authentic hutong courtyard house with some mod cons that you expect from a hotel. The rooms are tastefully decorated and quite spacious. There are limitations because it is a courtyard house which mainly comes down to a bit of common sense and expectation management.
You are never quite sure about the security of your belongings. The provided safe was small and not bolted down. The bathroom was the main area of concern. the wood panelling in our shower cubical had rotted away down the bottom leaving some exposed small nails which we had to be wary of with young kids. The breakfast selection is limited, the egg station is great and the fresh fruits were good but apart from that, everything else is average.
On the positives the staff were excellent and the experience of staying in the middle of a hutong was awesome. I enjoyed the novelty of having a sauna in the room. Most surprisingly, air quality inside the room was excellent. although the outside air was dusty and polluted, the air inside the rooms was great and there was no need to use the airconditioner (which is one of my pet hates about travelling, the aircon always dries you out). Because of this, the hotel gave me the best sleep during my whole trip in China.

been there for a week to do some sightseeing in beijing, perfect atmosphere if you want to visit beijing in a nice hutong courtyard in an side alley of nan gulouxiang. take the extra costs and order a room in the main courtyard to get a perfect beijing experience. the rooms are equiped with traditional beds, so prepare for "hard sleeper" - hey but that's the chinese way to sleep...anything else would not be authentic! all in all perfect stay and perfect place to discover beijing.

I think the best thing about this hotel is the location. Situated in an authentic hutong neighborhood in the northeast part of central Beijing, you are limited only by your imagination and skills at communicating with the locals for food choices and shopping. The hotel itself is nicely appointed without being too fancy or grungy. My room was clean but with lived in feel. The shower had a little mold and there were a few small flies who joined me in the shower each day. Minor annoyances. The restaurant is a savior if you are too tired to figure out a menu around town. The food is certainly decent. The breakfast is European B&B style with enough selection. The staff is friendly and helpful. My AC was not working the first night and they made every effort to have it fixed and it was the next day. If you choose a standard room, there is no window and its a wee bit dark. Not an issue for me, but for those who like light, this is not the room for you.
