Huguosi Street is lots of fun - great food and a fantastic craft beer bar just next door to the hotel. There is a metro station at the end of the street so it's super easy to get around town. Don't be afraid to try the street food around - just pick stuff that is cooked fresh.

The rooms are average with average everything - beds are typical, pillows are terrible (like everywhere in China it seems!) and the bathroom is ok. Bonus point for a drinking water tap in each room. Not the greatest tasting water but nice to be able to fill up bottles of water.

The staff are the let down here - not very friendly and no one we met over our 4 night stay spoke English at a level where we could make our basic requests understood. We were charged for a second room key for a twin room which I thought was unusual. Staff were unable to offer any advice or assistance around transport or dining. There are cadged birds in the foyer during the day (who knows where they disappear off to at night) and they are piercing loud and annoying.

There is a dingy little karaoke bar in the basement that is hilarious and fun. It's filthy and the toilets were nearly the worst we saw in China but so much fun!

First of all. The hotel is clean. You get fresh towels. Clean sheets. And your room gets refreshed daily. To a standard you suspect your chambermaid suffers from OCD.
You get wifi. Good coverage. Decent speed. But it's limited to only one devices. So if you need to use your phone, tablet and laptop all at once then look elsewhere.
You get hot water and air conditioner. TV shows a variety of Chinese stations. They provide slippers for moving around.
You don't get a safe in the room nor a fridge for cold beers and food.
The location is right next to a food street. It's occasionally noisy with honking electric bicycles. But that's about all the noise from the street.
The rooms are not very well sound insulated. The walls are thin. Light sleepers will find it hard to sleep if you have noisy travellers.
Decor is typically Beijing and Chinese hotels. Birds at the lobby talks too much. But it's the travellers that talked to the birds that bothered me.
It's within walking distance to a MRT so it's easier to go places.
That's about it. Have a good trip.

Great location, close to the subway, 15 mins walk to shopping malls, 15 mins walk to bars etc. Easy and friendly check in, with well appointed rooms. Bakery down stairs is great. Would recommend to friends and family.

Staff helpful but speak limited English. Rooms clean and tidy. No breakfast available so we had to venture out. There is a mini market to the left near exit B of Ping Anli subway station. Although a currency exchange centre they wouldn't change sterling despite it being the first on their sign. Do master the subway, your passport to the rest of Beijing. The Summer Palace (Yuanmingyuan ruins) is straight along line 4. The ticket machines have an English button and all the stations are in Chinese and English.

Room Tip: Our floor 3 room had a bathroom, fridge and wardrobe. Floor 5 had a wetroom with slppery floor. Wifi is free but largely ineffective.

We stayed at the Huguosi Hotel for 7 nights as an introduction to a Vodkatrain tour. The Huguosi Hotel is named after Huguosi Street on which it is located, a fantastic food street with great restaurants and a metro station close by - which makes travelling around Beijing an absolute breeze. All the staff we dealt with were extremely friendly, and the hotel was quite clean. Our twin bed room was small but well-furnished with a view onto the street, and was cleaned every morning. The restaurant seemed to cater more to Chinese guests as there was no English menu or English-speaking staff working in the restaurant, but that is not too much of an issue when you are staying on one of Beijing's most famous food streets. Staying here for one week was an extremely pleasant experience and I would recommend the Huguosi Hotel to anyone looking for a good value and well-located hotel in Beijing.
