We visited the Akamba Handicraft cooperative as part of our visit to Mombasa. It was very interesting to understand the difference between the different types of wood, to see the carvers at work and to get familiar with the process. Everything feels genuine, it is quite an interesting experience. Each carver has an ID number that will appear on the reference of the wood piece (and can be passed from father to son). The shop is impressive, with high quality wood carvings. Great place for learning and buying souvenirs!
