Went with my family to the Mara and chose Saruni for their location, their inclusion of local communities in staff and economic model within the conservancies. Saruni wild is a magical place where you can see zebras from bed, have a hot shower, feast with Italian food, and be tended to by kind and knowledgeable staff. The rain forced us to move to the highlands to the Saruni lodge which is luxurious, has electricity, and also a wonderful team of staff. Having been to both of them I prefer the Wild location for its exclusive isolation (only three tents for a Max of 8 guests) and for its unbeatable location in the middle of the bush. If electricity and WiFi are indispensable to you and you’re looking for post game drive spa treatments then head up to the lodge. Kudos to Cecilia for her excellent management and client relationships. Dixon our guide set the bar very high for when we return.

Thank you very much for your wonderful and precise review that explains so well what is special about Saruni Wild and how to choose it vs Saruni mara, the lodge. We look forward to have you back? have you been to Samburu? And sorry for the rains, there were really biblical this year.

I was so happy that African Portfolio recommended us to stay two nights at Saruni Wild during our time visiting the Maasai Mara (we also stayed 3 nights at Saruni Mara following Wild). Saruni Wild is a totally immersive and unique experience, to be situated right in the middle of the plains/bush in the conservancy and surrounded by wildlife. Your senses get to experience the sounds, smells, and sights of the region in so many ways, and I don't think any other safari lodge experience can match this aspect. I loved waking up to hot chocolate and cookies on our porch and listening to the happy wildebeests and zebras, and learning from staff what other animals (bush babies, hippo, lion, etc.) we may have heard making noises the night before. So cool!!!

With only three tents in spacious, "glamping" style and plenty of friendly and knowledgeable staff members to address your questions and needs, this is a really wonderful experience. If you are generally comfortable with car camping, you won't mind the lack of electricity in the tent (plenty of lanterns are provided as well as flush toilet), and you can charge any devices in the main tent easily, though I loved being "unplugged" for this experience personally. And getting hot water for showering was a very easy process and I loved the Saruni robes! The food and beverage service is top-notch and we especially enjoyed our "sundowner" on the property, looking out at so many animals and the sunset, with the fire to complement.

Kudos to manager William and all of the Saruni Wild service and kitchen staff for making this an incredible experience. We also loved our guide (William) Tinka, but going to rave more about him in my review for Saruni Mara.

This camp is set on the plains of the Masai Mara, the location couldn't get much better. As it is a tented camp, the accommodations are more rustic than the camp's sister property Saruni Mara, but all creature comforts have been considered and provided. The camp manager is engaging and experienced. Our highlight was the bush dinner set-up in the bush in front of the camp and enjoyed as the sun set over the plains. Such a great stay!

Genuinely, staying at Saruni Wild was the most exciting and memorable experience of our lives. We are fortunate to take a holiday or break nearly every month and out of the hundreds of holidays we've had, this was the best. The intimacy, the luxury, the quality, the service and the unbeatable experience of waking up in the middle of the conservancy, with zebra, wildebeest and buffalo grazing outside your tent, or as we experienced lions marauding the camp at night, is the stuff of dreams. We loved everything!

Saruni Wild is situated perfectly in the middle of the savannah in an area abundant with wildlife, including big cats! The location was incredible. The food was impeccable every meal and the staff was immensely helpful and friendly throughout our stay. We stayed in both Saruni Wild and Saruni Mara. While the location of Saruni Wild is definitely more central and more dynamic, we were less experienced with camping and being around so many animals, but William and the gracious staff at Saruni Wild went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and safe. The guides are members of the local Masai community and immensely knowledgeable and invested in responsible tourism in the Mara. Saruni guides are known for catching the best wildlife sightings (shout out to Tinka!), which was key during the Mara river crossing. If you're up for the adventure, Saruni Wild is definitely the camp for you!
