As we couldn't afford Giraffe Manor (at $500 PER PERSON per night), we checked into the House of Waine (only $300 for the two of us). We stayed only one night, but it was a great choice.
Luxury, boutique bread and breakfast with all the bells and whistles. Located in the Karen neighborhood, it was near the places we wanted to see - the elephant orphanage, the Karen Blixen House, the Kazuri beads workshop, and good food. If you're looking for the "real" Nairobi, though, you won't find it in up-scale Karen.
But the bed was huge, crisp sheets, wonderful modern bathroom, nice (free) snacks in the room's bar, and lovely helpful staff. The outdoor grounds are lovely, and there's a small swimming pool, though we didn't try it.
Our stay was brief but, well, quite near perfect.

- House of Waine is a family owned and run property and this is reflected in the name Waine which is made up of the initials of the family members.
