“New year last minute break”
Reviewed 18 January 2012

This was my 1st, hopefully of many trips to the Sofitel Karnak Luxor. They say it is 5*, but would disagree with parts of the hotel. Reception was a swift experience, Beautiful Pool with great barmen Amer & Mohamed Lotfi who made us feel very welcome.

The Sundowner Bar, a great place when the sun is going down to have a drink, which is right on the banks of the Nile, especially romantic with that "special person".

We walked into Luxor one day & visited the Karnak Temple. We were hassled to get Taxi's & horse drawn carriage rides which we didn't want, we just wanted to walk but they never accepted "no" which wasn't very favourable.

The rooms were clean & tidy with housekeepers (Mohammed ) surprising us with swans, Egyptian heads & crocodile's to be greeted by, the beds & pillows were very comfortable & mini bar fully stocked.

The buffet restaurant was great, always something to suit your taste buds, also staff very helpful. Nageh the Food & Beverage Manager treated us very well, we even had dinner one evening with the General Manager & Assistant Manager who accompanied us with friends we had met on this holiday. Egyptian Night is a must!!!

So a great All-Inclusive holiday, with lots of great memories .................

This was a very beautiful hotel in a good location, the food was lovely and that is about all I can recommend. Myself, friend and twelve year old son were given a lovely spacious room that unfortunately contained only two single beds. We had to push both beds together and sleep across them. I found it completely inapropriate for two adult women to have to share a bed with a young adult male. If you are wondering why we didnt complain i shall tell you why. The second evening of our stay we had drinks at the bar, talking to other english guests, the bar tender and a waiter, the last 20 minutes of our stay at said bar we were harrassed by the bar tender and waiter repeatedly to 'go to a bar' near the Luxor Hilton with himself and the waiter and to leave my son in the hotel! Myself and my friend were both asked seperatley on many occasions to 'go round the back of the hotel' so we could be showed 'something nice'? after returning to the room my friend went downstairs to the hotel lobby to get signal for the internet on her mobile where the bartender came to her with a hand drawn map of how to get to the tennis courts (the most remote part of the hotel) and said "you meet me here at 12am or i will get angry". this disgusting act of intimidation forced us all to spend the last two days of our holiday in out rooms, with the security chain on the door, not daring to venture any where near the hotel lobby. An other guest told us the waiter i have mentioned knocked on her hotel room, walked in the room and it took her 10 minutes to get him to leave. We didnt complain until the very last minute of our stay as we were scared of reprisals. It is wrong that we were made to feel so uncomfortable and scared on what was a very expensive holiday, this is a 5* hotel but the staff - mohamed and ala/ali? arent even a 1*. A lovely hotel, ruined by a few idiot staff that need sacking. They are lucky we didnt get on to the police. i suggest women do not stay at this hotel unless there is a man in their company.

Stayed at Sofitel, Karnak. Really gorgeous resort - amazing pool and one fo the best breakfast I've had on many of our global travels.
The landscape and design of the resort is quite unique and evening sunset on Nile is magnificent. Found to be very kid friendly and quiet.
The location is a little outside town, but taxis go up there easily. I couldn't pick older dates(we visited in April 2009).

This was my 7th visit to the Sofitel and as usual the hotel lived up to my expectation I have stayed in a number of first class hotels but this one rates as one of the best. All the services provided are of a good standard and the staff are very happy to make your stay enjoyable.
If you want a restful holiday with the choice of plenty to do then try the Sofitel Karnak the banks of the Nile are the perfect place to enjoy the sun..
But do enjoy a trip into Luxor to sample the local food although the hotel food is very good the locals will make you very welcome. Due to the Arab Spring i know some are a little concerned regarding safety dont be take the same care as you would at home and enjoy a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a viwe of the garden and low level if you have difficulty with stairs.
