“Jules Verne Cairo”

Just come back from a 10 day trip to Cairo and Nile cruise. Moevenpick Hotel nice and quiet - on one level - friendly, nice pool but weather was a bit cold to swim!
Excellent breakfast (included) and ate in the Thai restaurant which was excellent and good value - couldn't do enough for us.
Only downside - views of pyramids only from coffee terrace which was accessible from outside the hotel, down the road and up 2 flights of stairs!
Recommended.

With the Great Pyramids of Giza as the backdrop, the Movenpick Pyramid Resort is a great place to stay. One just needs to step outside the hotel to view the magnificent structures. We had stayed in the resort for a couple of nights on our tour to Egypt and found the resort comfortable. The room was rather compact but not crowded. However, the room decor was rather dull - perhaps something that the management can look into. The staff was very helpful and prompt. The food was excellent. The breakfast buffet spread was awesome- especially the omelet bar. Excellent coffee as well. All in all our stay was quite comfortable.

Location: 10 min from the Pyramids, more than an hour from Cairo (due to the traffic). Easy to go around with the taxi/touristic service available at the hotel lobby. The area is not so pleasant and the ''bar with a terrace view from the pyramids" is in a separate building - you don't have the feeling it is part of the hotel.
The general atmosfere was good, the rooms are built to look like bungalows.
Service: friendly staff
Breakfast: reasonable choice for the breakfast, well decorated restaurant
Restaurants: good thai restaurant, pizza at the swimming pool was below the level of the rest of the hotel.
Rooms: despite some reviews I had read that the rooms needed reform, mine was clean and modern.
Value was great, I couldn't expect more for the price paid. It was a pity that was empty due to the reduced number of tourists now.
I recommend this hotel.

We were booked into the Movenpick at the end of a two centre holiday in mid-February, based first on board a Nile cruise boat and then in Cairo to see the pyramids, for which it is quite well located. Although the public rooms are well appointed with splendid chandeliers, the garden located bungalow bedrooms, while spacious, are less impressive, with eighties style decor. The food is ok, although not as good as on our Nile cruise boat, the Hamees, where the buffets were wide-ranging in choice and absolutely freshly prepared. The biggest problem at the Movenpick during our stay was that it was quite cold in the evenings which meant that the Italian restaurant, which was located outdoors by the swimming pool, was not open, thus reducing the dining options to the bar, the Thai restaurant and the buffet dining room which, while ok for breakfast, was a bit overlit and functional for an evening meal. The lobby and bar also did not seem to be fully heated: guests were sitting in their outdoor jackets and we relied on numbers to generate some warmth! The bedrooms did have heating via the aircon, but it took a while to make a difference. I assume the weather was unusually chilly and that the hotel does not normally anticipate such cold. The staff were efficient and friendly and our room was clean and perfectly functional - it was just a bit disappointing for a 5 star hotel, especially compared with the Mena House, where we went for dinner on the last night, and which is both luxurious and historic, and which has a fantasic view of the pyramids from the restaurant and some bedrooms!

Good location for the pyramids. We had a non-smoking room, which smelt of smoke, including the sheets, which for non smokers was not great. Room was a bit tired. Breakfast was included and not to bad, although had someone light up right near us, which we are just not used to. Hotel was ok but not great.
