Osiris Hotel
Ranked #31 of 143 Hotels in Cairo
Reviewed 16 August 2016

I booked this hotel for a couple of friends and family members from Germany and Austria who came to attend my wedding in Cairo. It was very difficult to find a stylish, clean and affordable place in downtown Cairo, I went around Cairo downtown and visited many hotels before I decided to book the Osiris. Myself and all the guests who have stayed in the hotel were very satisfied and we all were impressed by the cleanliness. I chose this hotel because it is unique, since its location is perfect to walk around downtown Cairo, to reach the metro and to plan excursions. Nabil, the owner, is very helpful in arranging airport pick-ups and guided excursions for a decent price. I booked a tour for my guests with Nabil and the feedback I got was impressive: A great mini-bus with drinking water bottles for each person, a perfect spot to have a traditional lunch (no one got sick afterwards) and the guide was very informative and funny. Nabil organised several airport transfers and as well transfers within Cairo for my guests and as a local person, I can say that the price was good. My guests enjoyed their breakfast and the owner and his brother made an effort not to serve every morning the same breakfast, but according to guests wishes. The staff is very friendly and very responding if you express any wishes. After a long day in town and you are too tired to go out to find a place for dinner, you could simply ask Nabil for available delivery food and you can enjoy it in the restaurant with a great view and a beer. Regarding the rooms themselves, they all have their individual style and some of them have a private balcony. The hotel is located on the last floor of a high building and has a marvellous terrace. From the breakfast room, your private room or from the terrace, you have a great view of Cairo and you really feel that you are in the heart of the city. Since it is on a very high floor (11th or so) you are not bothered with street noises, like in other downtown hotels.
Whether for couples or smaller groups, this hotel is perfect, if you want to FEEL actually being in the Mega City of Cairo, with Arabesque style and you don't want to compromise with cleanliness or quality of sleep. As mentioned in the heading it is almost like a boutique hotel and Nabil, his brother, and his two small dogs, are part of the great experience!

Room Tip: The ones with a balcony for a little extra charge

The location is the best thing about this place. Lots of military outside because the army has headquarters in the neighborhood. The wifi was not workin' when we were there six months ago so expect no miracles on that front. We used the subway and buses to get around in Cairo/Gaza so the proprietor lost interest in us quickly. It's a dormitory more then a hotel. There was warm water the first morning, gone the next. Wasn't in the mood for another "wifi"-explanation and took a cold one. After all it's Egypt...

The bad: "Hotel" sees like a bit of a stretch. This would really be called a hostel anywhere else. The rooms were very basic, but mostly clean. The beds were semi-comfortable. If you're a smoke this place is great. If you don't smoke and the smell of smoke bothers you, I wouldn't recommend booking here. The owner basically sits in the lobby and chain smokes all day, and the smoke inevitably makes it's way into your room. The breakfast is meager, mostly consisting of toast or a small yogurt. The wifi did not work while we were there, which is really one of the big reasons we booked there because my wife had some work to do. Also, you can book excursions, but they definitely overcharge. We had a really good time at the Nile cruise, but mostly because we had an excellent guide.

The good: The location feels pretty safe, you have to walk through a police blockade just to get to the hotel. It's located within walking distance of Tehrir Square and the Egyptian antiquities museum. The owner did set us up with another hotel in the area to use their wifi for a few hours to get some work done.

This is a decent place overall. We weren't in Egypt to hang out in our hotel anyway, so it was a fine place to sleep at night. Cash only

This hotel was a hidden jewel the service was excellent and the owner Nabel and his brother treated my friend and I like their daughters. I loved waking up in the morning to have breakfast and hanging out after a day of tours in the main sitting area talking stories with them. My first trip to Egypt and I loved it!

this 10th floor b&b is great in that it is central, in a safe neighborhood (across from the police headquarters !!), with restaurants nearby, and the egyptian museum, the metro, and tahrir square a short walk. the breakfast is so so but it is a delight to sit and eat it looking out over the city. the owner will make any guide, driver, train/plane, etc reservations you want, and proocuce the tickets for you, and give you advice. this place is best for smokers, as there is usually a manager in the lobby chain smoking. YES, there IS wifi in a spot in the lobby that works ok. the location on the top floor with the views is the real feature of this place, and it is very cheerful as a result. the owner manager is a nice fellow who speaks perfect french and english and is sophisticated and friendly to talk to if you are a solo. one has a safe and therefore relaxed feeling here. far above any city hassles, and no hassles here.

Room Tip: there are some rooms with great views, definitely get one of these, as for from the kitchen as possi...
