We stayed here twice within one week before and after our Nile cruise. The hotel arranged airport pickups and drop offs that were near flawless and very affordable (about $9 US plus tip). The rooms were a bit outdated but clean and well furnished. The service from all employees was great. They have a 24 hour snack bar and restaurant with a solid selection of snacks, as well as beer, water and soft drinks. The included breakfast was great the first morning, but sub par the second (we ate much later on the 2nd morning so that could have been a factor).

We stayed 1 night in the City View Hotel in Cairo on 28th February. Our primary reason to choose this place was price and location - hence our expectations were low to begin with. We were arriving at midnight on 28th from Luxor by air (City View offered a pickup for USD10 and the triple-room for USD60) and leaving at 2PM next day for Alexandria. Since the Ramses station was barely 15 minutes by taxi from there, we chose City View.
The room was just that - a room to sleep in . The en-suite toilet/shower was similar - just that - small, cramped and barely adquate for its function. So nothing to write and comment about. The reception area was always occupied by 5 - 6 men hanging around, conversing, eating and smoking - even when we arrived at midnight. The chap who picked us up from the airport was constantly on the cellphone and driving at 100kmph!! Finally, I had to tell him not to risk our lives by talking while driving at such speeds. To his credit, the chap apologized and did not use the phone after that.

Breakfast (included in room cost) was okay - some fruits, eggs, toast, cheeses/jam etc. Juices/tea/coffee were all there. Again nothing to write home about.

Yes, the location is great - walking distance to Tahrir Square (nothing to see there when we were there), the Museum, the downtown, restaurants etc. all around. But I would stay here again only if I need a cheap place to sleep for 1 night.

Room Tip: Nothing much to choose. Use this place only if you want a cheap, city-centre place to sleep. Familie...

I love that this hotel is very close to Tahrir square and the museum ... it's a good budget choice ... breakfast is fine - nothing fancy - rooms is adequately clean (but adequately is relative) ... bathroom is modern and clean as well ... laundry is the cheapest ever ...
It's very important that you choose a good room ... mine was literally in the lobby so it was very noisy ... the staff were very polite and nice - except for the receptionsit - this man just was a bit rude and at checkout tried to rob me (he denied that i paid part of my stay) but things then got settled ... all and all my experience in the hotel was a good one ... i especially enjoyed my morning coffee in the tiny balcony overlooking cairo .. that was special ... if you are used to budget hotels then this one would be what you are looking for ... but if you were looking for comfort then skip it all together ...

The City View hotel is a centrally located hotel in Cairo, with a good room rate, and 5* service.

The hotel itself is on the 5th floor of an old, and apparently dilapidated building. However don't let that fool you - at the entrance (decorated with posters for the hotel), the bell boy was always welcoming and very helpful. Once he'd called the lift for you, asked how you day was, provided any useful advice (or left you alone if that's what you prefer, a rare treat in Cairo!) you'll end up at reception at the hotel. In a foyer area which offers a "living room" welcome, where you'll probably find the staff or, even the owner, relaxing, chatting with guests, smoking, or maybe playing guitar or using the free wifi. A relaxed atmosphere, but one where service comes first - the staff always attentive when they noticed we had arrived back.

The rooms are decent - not extravagant (pay triple the rate and stay at a 5* hotel for something grander) but rooms were better than most 3* hotels I've stayed in - satellite TV, in-room safe, wardrobe, dressing table, en-suite bathroom/shower room, and decent sized beds. There's even a balcony to admire Tahir Square or the Cairo museum that is a stone's throw from the hotel's excellent location. The rooms, and the hotel in general, were pretty clean too.

Breakfast lasts from 7 until 11 - and comprises a range of food, and the usual excellent, friendly and welcoming service. Each morning there was a choice of three hot items (e.g. local beans dish Fuul; scrambled eggs; beef burger), plus boiled eggs, cold meats and cheese, yoghurts, choice of two fruit juices, tea/coffee and selection of breads and fruits. Outside of breakfast times, this became the restaurant - didn't eat there, but menu selection was ok and reasonably priced. Beer was available, and again reasonably priced (compared to outside restaurants). It was relaxing to sip a beer while overlooking the Cairo museum, watching the chaotic driving into Tahir Square below.

One superb touch was receiving a breakfast box on the final morning as we left for the airport slightly too early for normal breakfast! We hadn't requested this, so it was a nice surprise.

Stay long enough (see website for the offer) and you get to use the hotel driver for the inward airport transfer. Also on offer is a "free" trip to the pyramids. As with everything in Cairo, a tip is the norm on top though. The driver is available for further excursions, such as heading out to sites further than the Pyramids, or even in Cairo such as the market. Although a reasonable price, taking public transport (either bus or metro) and even a metered taxi can work out the same or less price. But for convenience, and not having to haggle or argue about everything, the hotel car provided a great service. We mixed and matched, taking the relatively safe Metro/walking around central Cairo; and for the Pyramids taking the driver one day, and bus the next - providing a reasonable balance of "excitement" and relaxation! Do however ensure that you are firm about where you want to go and when. The hotel and the driver are genuinely helpful, but at the Pyramids that "help" ended up not at the main gate, but at a horse/camel excursion place. However, by being firm, we did avoid the carpet factory and Papyrus shop!

Overall, would definitely choose to stay at City View again - great location, great service, good rooms for a decent price.

Room Tip: All rooms will open onto a side street or Tahir Square, and neither is perfectly quiet. Tahir Squar...
