“Clean, slightly tired hotel with great service”
Reviewed 11 May 2012

I booked this hotel for an overnight stay in Yangon on our way to Bagan. It was less expensive than the hotel we were staying in for our return, extended stay in Yangon. The Chatrium was a little more than half the price of the other hotel and the service was twice as good. I was with my wife and children and we were very well taken care of at the Chatrium. The internet connection was the best we encountered in Myanmar (though not up to international business hotel standards). If our later stay had been refundable, I would have switched to Chatrium.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the pagoda!

The hotel is fairly nice and the staff very helpful. We stayed (the six of us) for only one night and we had dinner and breakfast there. We did not like the set menu they had for us but it was easily changeable for the buffet (paying the price difference, of course). The rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. We checked out at 5 am and they arranged us some boxes with breakfast.
It wasn't luxurious but it was pretty, clean, great staff and well located. Will surely come back.

Stayed here in March 2012 for 3 nights. Agree with other reviews - ideal location, good room + facilities. Slept like a log after long haul from UK!! One niggle was the cost for water at check out. I can't remember now but one make was free and the other was charged. Used the tour company Grand Lotus Tours - they were superb and arranged all the hotel accommodation in Myanmar. They say they have Wifi facilities at the hotel but it's really random whether you get a connection (ask for your money back if you can't get one!), this also applies to the whole of Myanmar. Tour guide (Toe) took us to a bank in town and we got an excellent rate of exchange, but remember to take brand new dollars (no creases at all). I kept them in a couple of jiffy/padded bags and this worked well.

Spent 2 nights there. Great start for a trip in Myanmar or Yangon. Very nice, modern, clean and spacious rooms, very good western 4 star standard - however has the feel of a business hotel rather than resort. Excellent service, very friendly staff. Good restaurant on round floor focused on western food which is quite pricey for Myanmar/Yangon standards - if you want local food you've got to ask for local menue which is very good and also less expensive. Great breakfast with a lot of variety. The hotel is near the Shwedagon pagoda but a bit distant from the city center - you would need a taxi or own car to get to the center or around the city.

I had stayed at this hotel with my family in December 2012, over Christmas for 5 nights and enjoyed every bit of the wonderful hospitality showered upon my family each day of our stay here. We were greeted at the Yangon International Airport by Thomas, the hotel limousine driver who picked us up punctually and took us through the city on our way to the hotel. Upon arrival, there was a friendly guest service officer who was dressed in traditional attire greeting us and making the entire check in process smooth. I got a room which faced the back of the hotel, but the views of the entire neighbourhood covered in trees and greenery was so soothing. The breakfast served each day was good, and the hotel also has a nice bar located in the ground floor itself near the lobby. It was very convenient for us to change money as the gift and souvenir store located within the hotel accepts US Dollars and offers good market rate to guests. A special word of thanks to concierge staff, Stephen who helped arrange for us various drivers to bring us on tours around the city. We really appreciated his efforts and his friendly humble service. The landscaping at the hotel is impressive, covered in so much greenery and with a nice pool surrounded by tall coconut palm trees, adds to the tropical paradise feel of the hotel. Just opposite the hotel, one can find a Thai restaurant that serves good Thai food. For those who want Indian food, one of the best Indian restaurants, Ashoka, is located just 5 minutes walking distance to the right of the hotel by the side road. And for those who are adventurous, one can take an early morning stroll around the lake which is located also in front of the hotel. As the neighbourhood around the hotel also houses the Japanese Embassy and other notable buildings, the security and safety level near the hotel is also very good. We felt very safe throughout our stay in the hotel. Although the hotel is located about 10 to 15 minutes drive from downtown Yangon, I strongly recommend this hotel as it offers tranquility and peace away from the noise, honking and bustle of downtown Yangon. One can get a good glimpse of Shwedagon Pagoda glittering like gold from the higher floors of this hotel. Also do not forget to try the signature spa treatments at the Lilawadee Spa located inside the hotel. Will strongly recommend this hotel, particularly for those travelling with family and looking for a tranquil place to come back every evening and relax.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is facing the Kandawgyi Lake if you like. I did not have any special preferences...
