The cable car ride is wonderful, and is backed up by an exciting "funicular" train like wagon that actually tunnels through the mountain as it approaches the top. Both are a great tourist attraction, and lines can get long going up and coming down. Visitors can buy souveniers and have food as they visit the Church of Monserrate.

When I arrived at the base, I was a little disappointed and thought it was going to be lame - WASN'T!! Awesome view, not crowded, relaxed atmosphere, good cafes and I spent a few hours there. It is very peaceful!

It was Christmas Eve and many tourists were there but the teleferico was tiny and the visitors as well as the staff was crammed into a ride more than the limit.
