We are using this hotel upon a couple of occasions before and after a trekking holiday over the Cordillera Real.
Breakfast is relatively basic with cereals, scrambled eggs, waffles and a selection of pastries and croissants. Fruit juices and coffee is provided.
The bedroom and enjoy suite was clean and spacious. The over-bath shower is not very powerful though adequate.
Staff are friendly and obliging together with the hotel being very convenient to explore the city and shops.

Stayed for 2 nights. Triple room had 3 queen size beds! On our second day we left early to go the airport and were told they would put an early breakfast on for us. I wasn't expecting much but was still disappointed to find 3 stale bread rolls on a plate! We ate in the restaurant as son was ill - had a burger and chips - again average at best (we were the only 3 diners). Light in corridor went off before you could get the card in the door - stood in pitch black darkness fumbling! Fountain on level 1 kept me awake half the night with the sound of running water (we were on level 3) Only things good about the hotel were the location, room size and friendly staff.

Conveniently located in central La Paz. Rooms are extremely spacious. Reception staff are friendly, well presented and professional. Hotel is very clean though one of our rooms did have a strong perfumed smell.
Good breakfast provided. Wifi provided, a little intermittent but generally good.
Couple of downsides to an otherwise satisfactory stay were : shower took ages to get hot ... And occasionally didn't get hot at all.
Room heater is extremely loud, fortunately it wasn't cold enough on our visit for this to worry us.
Lastly ... Do not get your laundry done here ... The cost is absolutely extortionate, we had approx 4kgs machine washed (no ironing) and it cost the equivalent of $70 US !!!!!
I am still in shock.

La Paz is a very interesting city, but not at night ! El Rey hotel is situated very close to the center - we went out to dinner on the first night, but later realized that hotel restaurant is very good, they serve typical Bolivian dishes - and even provide elegant room service for no additional charge !
A must - take a gondola ride to the top - it is like traveling through different worlds !

First impressions are good with a central location and a smart front of house. However the whole hotel beyond this looks tired and rather unloved. Our room on the sixth floor was huge, but the bathroom had no window and no ventilation system. The hot water took for ever to reach temperature. The ventilation system in the bedroom didn't seem to have any cooling facility and was on a noisy ticking clockwork timer.
I know that one should judge a Bolivian hotel by local standards but I have stayed in other much better hotels in Bolivia. Overall this hotel disappointed me.
