Visited this time with my Husband for a weekend stay after 3 wonderful day trips - tranquil and beautiful island. Staff are beyond helpful and extremely kind. This is my 4th visit to the island and won't be my last, we love Banana Island.

Its a great place for a short break from Doha. Its situated 3 mins boat ride away from Corniche but feels totally different from the busy doha life. Beautiful island with full greenery, lovely beaches, great rooms and restuarants. It had good number of activities for kids and adults if you are there for a short break - 9hole golf, bowling, cinema, cycing, water activity, surf pool ,spa and welness center.
We were there for a day during Ramadan for our Anniversary. Not the best time weather wise and lack of resturants options. Though our day was made special by cake delivery at mid night which was a good surprise.
We had booked for sea view deluxe room which was beautifully decorated and had a lovely sitting arrangement outside. Bathroom was as big as the room with lovely oval shaped bath and rain shower. Rooms had coffee machine n variety of tea. Aater bottles were refilled as requested. We had a box of sweet as welcome as well. I loved their pillow menu which was one of the most variety i have seen.
Due to Ramadan, we had fixed iftaar at thier Azraq Restuarant which was good and lots of variety. Breakfast next morninv was also great. We were sent suhoor at the room for my husband who was fasting. Food is good with great service.
We would love to be back in a more pleasant weather and for a longer break.
Two suggestions for improvement- Full length mirror in the rooms -(not sure if other rooms had them) and private pool room/water vila room otuons for single rooms will be great for couples and small family.

We have booked a 1 night stay at Banana island resort for may 31 stay.We directly contacted the resort through hotel email for booking Junior suite for 2 adult and 1 child and got it for QAR 1399.As part of Ramadan island package Iftar,Suhour or breakfast, boat transfer, early check in and late check out,1 free bowling and Ramadan amenities in room to be included.

You will be ending in paying QAR 250 extra per day if you book directly through hotel website. While children are included free of charge as per hotel policy, it will be chargeable during online reservation in the website.Either contact them through official email or put children as none if booking through website.

The reservation agent informed us in email that boat runs every 2 hours during Ramadan during day time.so I thought if we miss 1 pm boat ,there will be boat only at 3 pm so we went in hurry to board 1 pm boat.but later we understood boats were running every 1 hour and the schedule send to us by reservation agent is completely different from the actual schedules.

I requested if possible for an upgrade to a pool villa and manager said need to pay around QAR 1300 extra. So we thought its not worth to pay this much and get a 2 bed room pool villa as we are only 2 adult .They dont have any private pool villas for 1 bed room which is shameful.so if you need a private pool ,for even 1 person you will end up in paying around 4000 QAR to get a 2 bed room villa.

We reached banana island port terminal around 12.45 pm and done check in there.Staff welcomed us and we were proceed to check in counter.Check in was complete in few minutes & we were given boarding pass for 1 pm boat and told we will receive our luggage at room. Our boat was ready at port and we proceed towards it .Captain and hostess in white uniform welcomed us inside the boat.Only 2-3 families were there in boat and most of the remaining seats were filled with workers/staffs of resort going to island for duty.

Boat departed from terminal at 1.00 pm.Catamaran transportation was interesting with nice views of calm sea.No snacks or water will be served inside boat.We reached banana island around 1:30 pm.The resort looks a bit outdated from front

Upon arrival nobody was there to welcome or guide us at terminal. We asked a nearby staff and he pointed us the reception.Again check in was done there and the staff took us to our room in a club car.We had booked a junior suite. We got room 3001 around 2.00 pm.He explained about the dining options during Ramadan and shown us the room. 2 set set of electronic key cards along with a small map and WiFi password were given.

The rooms were huge and well furnished. The resort provide us a lovely anniversary cake which was waiting for us in living room taste too good. The bed was decorated with rose petals & swan decorations. Switches for Lights, curtains,Ac etc everything was electronic. Nespresso coffee machine is in every room and refills were provided along with variety of tea sachets.Big televisions are provided in both living and bed room.A huge walk in closet is provided which is sufficient to keep all our luggage. Floors to ceiling windows from both living room and bed room over looks the lagoon pool.Complimentary WiFi was also available in room.

The bathroom is divided between the basin and bath tub area and two separate cabinets for shower and toilet. The bath room and ovel shape tub were nice and attached Rain forest type huge shower was wonderful. You could enter directly to a dressing room after the main door without passing through living room which is a good idea.Bath rooms and toilets can be accessed from both living room and bed room.Speakers are available even in bath room where you can listen to music while having bath in tub.

The huge balcony which overlooks the lagoon pool and sea also was equipped with beds and chairs. There is patio which give access to kids pool and lagoon pool and next to it is the beach.

Mini bar items and snacks are very expensive compared to other 5 star properties .A small can of coke costs around 25 QAR. As part of our 'Ramadan Island package' they said Ramadan amenities will be in the room and we didn't find anything. The junior suite on ground floor ( 3001) doesn't have a great view of sea as its directly facing kids play area and lagoon pool.so privacy is also less.Better to take any rooms in higher floor if you needs good sea views and more privacy. If travelling with kids and elders ground floor rooms may be selected.

Around 3:30 pm we went outside our room where there is kids play area and kids pools. The main kids pool has 3 water slides and my 3 year kid loves a lot.An adult should accompany kids less than 5 year old in this pool as water depth near the slides is around 1 m which is too deep for younger kids.Few chairs are around the pool and life guard is always there on duty. For toddlers, adjacent to main kids pool there is a wading pool and a pirate ship that has slides. We spend more than 2 hours here and my kid was refusing to come back from the pool. The water slides are fun for kids and appreciate for this concept.

Near to the kids play areas and in front of rooms are lagoon pools.I don't think its good for swimming and only very few people use it.The main adult pool is around 1 km walk from this place along the beach. Its not a big pool and being in a five star resort expected a bigger one.may be they could make another pool in future.

The walk along the beach is nice.It was jelly fish season which resists us to go to the sea.Sign boards were placed along the beach that caution visitors regarding jelly fish. There are plenty of sun beds along the beach.Beach was tidy with clear blue water which is visual treat to eyes. The beach overlooks the Hamad airport and my kid loves to see lot of planes landing and departing from there.

We went to Azraq Restaurant around 7.00 pm( May 31) for the Iftar that was included in our package. We were told to sit in waiting area as we were room guests. They told us tables were full. But we saw lots of day guests who are not staying in rooms were allowed to enter.Around 20 room guests were sitting in waiting area and our table was ready at 7:45 pm only. we spend 45 min just waiting and during this time at least 100 day visitors went inside. They should definitely give priorities to people staying in resort rather than outside visitors who are coming only for Iftar.

Most of the staff inside Azraq restaurant are great although not all of them.Buffet selection was huge.A live band was there to entertain the guests.Fruits section was nicely arranged with 2 dates mountain at both sides looks wonderful.International buffet that spread across the restaurant will cater all those foodies.Sea food section,Grilled section, salads,Egg station, desserts,Ice creams, cut fruits ,juices were all in huge variety. Many live cooking stations were scattered across the restaurant. However we didn't find sushi's or soups -may be we missed it.We were asked many times to clear the left over plates to get it removed.More staffs should have been there and we feel all those who were there are very busy. Being to many other similar resorts and hotels for iftar and suhor, only at Azraq i find not enough staff to cater the needs of crowded people during peak times. As banana Island was open after maintenance only yesterday, may be because it all staff were not available.Arabic coffee and moroccan tea that we got also was nice.Food was of good quality and overall a nice experience. Iftar is priced QAR 250 per person for outside guests.

We just thought of walking around the compound. But the lights are not enough and its kind of dark particularly at beach.so we thought of going back to room without spending much time outside.24 hours securities are available in front of accommodation buildings and they all are very friendly.Sleep quality was good with comfy bed and pillows with quiet air conditioning and fan.

Next day morning ( June 1), 8 am we walk through the beach and went to kids pool as well.kids pool was closed and they said will open only at 9.00 am.we spend some time in outside kids play ground and walk around 500 m along beach where there is a swing right on the beach. It was too hot and humid even at morning. The swing right on the beach is a very good concept and we loved it.A request to do some maintenance and painting as it look bit outdated. Also kids pool should open little early as its becoming too hot even at 9 am.later we went to room and proceed to Azraq for buffet breakfast.

Compared to last night,Azraq was not busy and plenty of seats was available.International buffet was also lavish and we enjoyed it.Different varieties of food was available with some live cooking stations.staff was friendly and good was tasty.

We went back to rooms round 10.00 am as temperature and humidity was already high.its very difficult to roam around at this time. Even though our package offered late check out at 4.00 pm we were asked to checkout at 12.00 pm.our luggage was taken at 12:15 pm and we waited around 30 minutes for a club car .Upon arrival at reception they said 1 pm boat was full and we need to wait another 1 hour for 2 pm boat.later we were allowed to enter into 1.00 pm boat with some one else boarding pass.reached Doha terminal at 1:30 pm and a bye bye to Banana island for a mixed experience.

We regret for not seeing all those things they have in Island.Heard they have a wonderful anantara spa and a balance wellness center. For water sports they have a Diving center and a surf pool.Banana boat ride, kayaking, paddle boarding, bicycles and velo taxi were available at extra cost.Tennis court,9 hole golf course, racing simulators are there. Beach sports activities are beach foot ball, volley ball, and badminton.A VIP cinema theater is there and its free of charge.Kids club and teen clubs are also available. An equipped fitness center is also there.

The pros we noticed are

1) late checkout at 4.00 pm was denied even though they told us during reservation. we were forced to check out at 12 noon

2) Ramadan amenities which was included in package.we didn't find anything in room.1 free bowling was included in package and nobody was having idea about it.

3) Lack of coordination with reservation team and hotel staff in Island.Boat timings given by reservation team was completely wrong. Restaurants details for food were different than those told by reservation for breakfast.

4) I missed many activities at resort as nobody was there to guide properly.we were just given a small map and drop to room.it would be better if some one would round all around the resort in a club car showing all activities and amenities

5) Out of many different restaurants inside island only 2 were open.

6) At least some staff are not friendly to guests. At least having a smile on the face would make a huge difference.I wonder why i didn't find a single manager anywhere in the resort meeting guests during our stay

7) Priorities should be given to room guests for restaurant had to wait for 45 minutes for a table while lots of day guests were allowed to enter.

8) Some areas looks bit outdated and requires some maintenance.

9) morning time lots of adults were seen in kids pool using slldes.feels bit unsafe to send the kids in it along with them.security was not stopping them.people are even entering in it with cotton clothes.

10) Lighting should be improved at night as its dark in many areas

11) Additional pool is required for adult as the available 1 pool is small to accommodate and its very far from main area.

12) All activities need to pay extra and priced very high.what you get free is only cinema, pool and beach access

13) kids pool were not opened till 9 am and it becomes too hot and humid after 9.00 am which become practically impossible to use. At least during summer timing it should open early.

14) Golf carts are running the same way the pedestrians are walking.so people need to be extra cautious while walking at any time a fast moving cart may come towards you.no separate pedestrian access is provided.

15) If booking through hotel website children under 5 also will be charged around QAR 250 per day, while as per hotel policy children under 5 are admitted free.

Despite all those spoilers i hope management will solve sooner than later which may bring us again to visit the island.

Room Tip: top floor rooms for good views

A beautiful villa located in a stunning location, perfect to feel like your away from Qatar for a little bit! Really felt like we had a holiday!

Very busy during ramadan, resulted in poorer services across the island. No early check in or late check out available. This wasnt made clear until receiving booking confirmation.
