Review of Souq Waqif

Souq Waqif
Reviewed 6 April 2018

Getting lost in this souq while hunting down bargains is compulsory. It is massive with seemingly endless alleys of little stalls selling everything from food the plumbing supplies. Do not expect to go in and be out within an hour, it simply won't happen. There is also a mini theme park type play area for the kids with carnival rides to keep them occupied and when you do eventually find your way out of the maze sit down at one of the many eateries and enjoy an icy glass of fresh squeezed juice or a meal.

Soukh is everyone’s favourite in Doha. If you haven’t done Soukh Waqif then you have missed the best part of Doha. Go!

OK, accept this is a tourist trap. Embrace that it is a tourist trap.
The souq is a fun place to waste a few hours just nosing round the shops, having a bit of a haggle and eating some high quality food (Damasca and the Yemeni are fantastic).

I don't like the pet souq and suggest you walk around it if you are an animal lover unless you can afford to adopt them all!

It is like stepping into a movie set of Arabian nights. The history and culture is in abundance at this must visit area. It is were you see the real side of trading in Qatar.

The only thing I am strongly against of, is selling animals on this market. The fact that they're confined in small cages, all day long, in that heat, to hear screams of birds simply break my heart and I always avoid going through that part of Souk. Please stop selling animals there, this place will be better off without them.
