I won the room upgrade lottery at this hotel. I had originally booked a one person executive room but the front desk kindly upgraded me to a suite on the top floor complete with a living room, balcony, sofas, and a mini bar. Both the living room and the bedroom were nicely presented with modern furniture and both rooms had air conditioning and TV units. I had a most pleasant, undisturbed, comfortable four night stay at the Cavalier and it made my first stay in Beirut a memorable one. I was always greeted by a pleasant older gentleman (perhaps the owner?) when I entered the lobby. This hotel is located conveniently in El Hamra near cafes, restaurants and nightlife. I felt safe walking alone at night in this area. The staff were pleasant and efficient.
Do not take the taxis waiting at the taxi rank at Rafic Hariri airport! I was fleeced out of 60,000 LBP (about 45 USD) whereas it is only supposed to cost around 20~30 USD from the airport to the city center. Make sure to contact the hotel prior to your arrival in Beirut for a Cavalier Hotel shuttle car to pick you up from the airport and take you directly to the hotel. I plan to stay at the Cavalier for subsequent visits to Beirut.More
