This place is a slight detour off the dead sea hwy. There is a museum at the bottom of the hill where you park. They accept Jordan pass. Its a 10 min hike to the cave which is exhausting in the heat. Definitely dress up for it with hat sunscreen sunglasses. The museum is very interesting. The cave itself has been excavated to prove that this is definitely Lots cave where he took refuge with his daughters. There is this mosaic in the cave which is so old. The cave itself is sheltered.

to get here, you actually drive out the back of the parking lot for the lowest pint on earth museum, and up a narrow dirt road. Not much to see, and little info about it, but it takes little time and it is a beautiful setting

The feeling of being in a place that Lot may have actually lived was a bit surreal for me. The cave is up high in the cliff just above the Museum of the Lowest Point on Earth. You drive around to the back of the museum to a parking spot and there are steps leading up to it. A church was built there to remember this site as the place where Lot took refuge after fleeing Sodom and Gomorrah. The place is really ancient and there is a great a sense of history there. The cave overlooks a body of water that I mistook to be the Dead Sea but turns out to be a lake south of the Dead Sea that is not identified in Google Maps. Lots of farms grow an abundance of vegetables and fruit here.

The Franciscans sponsored excavating the site and it truly is incredible given its position in the Jordanian desert and its connection to the saltiness of the Dead Sea and the proposed sites of Sodom and Gomorrah.

It’s quite a hike up to some of the caves but it is well worth the effort.

There is so much history in Jordan that has yet to be excavated, to be discovered.

Very interesting museum of artifacts as well in the museum at the entrance to the site.

Thank Ted K

Off the beaten track but so rich in culture and history. The historical and scientific evidence brings the Old Testament to life. The south end of the Dead Sea is quite a drive but the scenery is breath-taking and the small but excellent museum full of information and fascinating artefacts. Quite a climb up to the cave and the ruins of the Byzantine basilica protecting it but the impression is awesome and the views absolutely spectacular, especially at sunset.
