Review of Lot's Cave

Lot's Cave
Attraction details
Reviewed 18 January 2018 via mobile

The Franciscans sponsored excavating the site and it truly is incredible given its position in the Jordanian desert and its connection to the saltiness of the Dead Sea and the proposed sites of Sodom and Gomorrah.

It’s quite a hike up to some of the caves but it is well worth the effort.

There is so much history in Jordan that has yet to be excavated, to be discovered.

Very interesting museum of artifacts as well in the museum at the entrance to the site.

Thank Ted K

Off the beaten track but so rich in culture and history. The historical and scientific evidence brings the Old Testament to life. The south end of the Dead Sea is quite a drive but the scenery is breath-taking and the small but excellent museum full of information and fascinating artefacts. Quite a climb up to the cave and the ruins of the Byzantine basilica protecting it but the impression is awesome and the views absolutely spectacular, especially at sunset.

If you drive along the Dead Sea Highway you will pass it, so we took a break here. The museum is really nice and you can even buy some small textiles made buy local women. There is a list you can write down your country and your name. In two weeks they had eleven guests. One couple from canada, some french, two germans adn some americans, so a really quiet and nice place to relax and check out some ancient cultural site. We gave the local kids there some sweets from Norway they never saw before. The people are so lovely there. There is Mosaic-restauration going on in the museum, you can watch. The cave/church is a short drive up the hill and a little walk up some stairs. The view is great and yes the cave entrance is pretty small. And like already said in other reviews, take water with you up.

The museum was done really well with lots of food information on the geography and people from this area over many centuries. Gave a solid understanding and helped me with Biblical perspective on Lot's cave.

The actual cave is small but the worship area is worth the 200 steps. And the view of the Dead Sea amazing.
