“Clean and adequate”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

Stayed at Bristol Hotel for three nights, some noise issues with the next room- probably ear plugs would help.Rooms reasonably spacious, neat, tidy and clean. Comfortable beds. Tea making facilities in room, but not replenished the following day (take your own). Alcohol prices are extremely high- 4 half pint lager; £25.50.there is a small supermarket nearby- 4 large cans £10.00.
The Bristol Hotel is centrally located and the normal sights can be accessed from the hotel. The hotel is functional with pleasant staff, and food is average fare. Get down early for meals, as the restuarant is in two halves, the inside dinning room, and the conservatory which can be cooler, and allows smoking.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on 1st or 2nd floor- near to the bars etc.

For a '5 star' hotel you would not expect to put up with the amount of noise that the Hotel Bristol creates. The better room are wedged between a conference hall sized ballroom, a sports bar and a nightclub.
Having stayed inthe Hotel Bristol for more than 2 weeks now and moved rooms 3 times, the noise is everywhere. The management lie about its source, intensity, duration and laugh at you when you complain saying it only goes on to 1am.

The staff on the whole are friendly and pleasant but it is all ruined by the constant noise. Please do your best to avoid this Hotel. It is not worth the money, it should not have 5 stars and I only wish I had left it weeks ago.

Lovely comfy bed (well it is one of the reasons to stay in a hotel rather than in a tent!). Bar staff in the sports bar need to listen a bit harder to ensure that the orders are correct. Otherwise a well located hotel

Well I have now stayed at almost all the hotels in Amman and the Bristol Hotel is certainly no where near the best. Recently given a 5 star rating. ( Why) its what I would consider to be old fashioned Middle East. In saying that the staff try their best but really nothing matches up to its present rating.Food is only just average. Rooms are not made up properly every day. Always on the phone asking for what should be in the room.I stayed here this time as I got such a good rate which included breakfast and free internet which too be honest was so poor it was not worth trying to do anyything on the internet as it was so slow. The hotel has several outlets for dinning and drinks. they are Ok at best but would suggest if anyone stays here they go out for all meals. Upside is beds are comfortable if not the pillows. bathroom is dated and as I said before things are just not replaced day to day. No bath robes so always having to get dressed to answer the door. Noisey room at the front of the hotel. Best to go to the new building at the rear.

Room Tip: If you stay I would suggest that you try a room in the new wing as the rooms at the reception buildi...

I have used this hotel twice, once in the summer and once in December. The logo has 5 stars but I think the Jordanian authorities rate it as being 4 star, my view is it is not worth more than this but it is the only hotel I know in Amman so cannot really compaire. It is as much by the fact it is my employers preferred hotel as my choice but it an adequate place to stay with some definite pros but also too many cons.
Many hotels including Sheraton and Crown Plazza are in the same area and this is fine for outside amenities and dining options which, in a city not overly kind to the predestrian are within walking distance. Like most hotels in Amman taxi's outide tend to overchange or try to - always insist on the metre or walk up the road where you will find one that does - you can otherwise expect to pay anything from 33% more upwards - why do hotels tolerate this (I know the answer but...).
Welcome and check in process is usually OK, nothing special and even when I was upgraded on my first visit I was almost made to feel they were doing me a favour rather than (probably) just being busy. This time I arrived very early but they had a room ready for my colleague and I but the welcome (especially for me as a returning guest) was only really lukewarm. Unfortunately, my colleague got an unpleasant surprise in so far as when he went to his room someone was in bed. A big mistake you would think but when he returned to the front desk the male receptionist was only concerned as to whether the occupant had seen him and did not offer an apology. Worse followed when the comments he drafted to bring the matter to the attention of the manage were thrown in the bin by the room service staff - mine also vanished from my room. Only one female member of the front desk has the standard of customer service I would expect of a hotel of this level. Security staff could be warmer but are better than the front desk, the conciage are better and but the only guaranteed smile seems to come from a Filipino waitress who seems to look after a ground floor cafe.
Rooms are quite nice - I have always been assigned one to the rear of the building (the hotel has two blocks xonnected by a ground floor walkway where a few services such as travel agenda and car hire are available. Beds are quite to my liking but finishing touches can be a bit tired. Extras like bath robes are the same - on my current stay the loop for the waist belt was broken on one side. At a truly top end place this detail would be checked. The TV has 50 channels (not BBC World though which I prefer) and there is a DVD player provided in the room too. The fridge is shut with a seal and I have not broken it so cannot comment on the contents or cost of the mini bar. A particular downside about the room is the heat controls - these do not seem to work and the heat meant I endured a fitfull sleep at best. Works on a new development 6 days a week do not help either - the drilling started even on a Saturday before 7 AM (not the hotels fault but a factor when considering options - my colleague was not disturbed so rooms on the opposite side of the corridoor - predominately even numbers - may be better).
Facilities are not too bad, a decent business centre with free and fast internet but only hidden by a screen from the consiage desk and hence very very noisy (I type from there now). The ground floor restaurant serves decent breakfast though service can be erratic as it is in the terrace bar (open only in the warmer months) where I once waited 45 minutes to be served a beer. Another first floor sports bar is dark and not too friendly - they made no provision for guests to use it during the Champions League final in May and at other times it is poorly used. Staff there could be more welcoming. Another eating and drinkling place on the top floor I have not visited.
A decent gym includes a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi free to guests, fairly clean and usually quiet. A friendly trainer is employed in the gym. Other services like massage (not sampled) are also available. Elsewhere there are male and female hairdressers - the male one charges 10JD just for a wet shave - you can do it for less than half this 200 metres from the hotel.
I have tended to arrange airport transfers through the hotel to minimise the slight risk of hassle with taxi drivers. These seem to work fine but of course you pay a premium.
In summary it is a mixed bag and I would say some serious customer service training would help transform the place as facilities are not bad. Pricewise my company has a very competative rate which I guess is a big part of why they use them. The hotel management should not however be complacent and I fear from what I have seen there is currently a tendancy to be just that. Jury is out on whether I will come back if there is the option to try somewhere else.

Room Tip: See above comment on construction works in the locality. If in the rear block ask for an even number...
