This site is well worth a visit , the peaceful gardens and passionate volunteer guides are a great addition to a trip to Jerusalem . There is clearly a tomb of the first century here , yet a debate with the church of the Holy Seplucher misses the reason to visit this site . It is a garden enabling thought and reflection surrounded by Christian believers .
We visited twice including the Easter Sunday Sunrise Service which was truely moving and memorable .
Definitely visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher yet most definitely visit the Garden Tomb and you decide which is the more reflective and suitable for Christian thought , after all that is why you are visiting Jerusalem .... right ?

What an experience. Even though there is a disclaimer that the garden cannot be guaranteed to be the true tomb, everything about the site was very inspiring.

There are two tombs alleged to be that of Jesus. The more famous one is in Church of the Holy Sepulcher (pronounced sep-ul-ker). Garden Tomb is, however, is a more enticing environment: a garden. And it is adjacent to Skull Hill (Golgotha), another TripAdvisor designated attraction. The only issue I have with either tomb is that if the body was resurrected then is neither actually a tomb?

Historically, the subject rock-cut tomb in Jerusalem was unearthed in 1867—shortly after America’s Civil War ended— and has been dated by Israeli archaeologists to the 800BCE era, meaning that the tomb interred many over the centuries. This was a common practice in ancient times, but contradicts biblical text that bespeaks of a new, unused tomb. The organization that maintains Garden Tomb refrains from claiming this to be the authentic tomb of Jesus, while indicating biblical similarities.

This area, a free admittance area, is quiet and the descriptions by docents of what happened to Jesus there is quite moving. Even though the tomb is probably not the tomb Jesus was laid in it is representative of the tombs of that time. This is one of the stops all Christian tourist should include in their tour of Jerusalem.

Seeing what could possibly be the actual site of Jesus' burial helped us see the crucifixion, burial and resurrection with new eyes. Our guide here presented facts well but clearly had a passion for this area and for the events surrounding Holy Week. Our tour group took communion after viewing the empty tomb and it was one of the most memorable and meaningful experiences of our trip to Israel.
