“Beautiful”
Reviewed 10 September 2012

It's very beautiful and in a wonderful location. Service is better than average for Israel.
Food is not amazing which is a terrible awful situation, since Israeli food is generally amazing. The breakfast especially is lacking, and Israeli hotel breakfasts are one of the greatest joys of the universe. But not here. Otherwise clean, lovely, new and modern but still filled with Jerusalem character. I stayed here after my wedding and will gladly stay again, but the food situation makes me sad. Also experienced some huge buffet holiday/shabbat meals, and while the food was plentiful, nothing that made me feel like I was on Top Chef.

The David Citadel is a modern luxury hotel in the centre of Jerusalem with great facilities and situated in probably the best location in the city. The staff are warm and helpful but not everyone is as English fluent as they would have you believe. The rooms are good and large with all the latest mod con's you would expect in a place that's very expensive. Just yards outside is Mamilla Mall, a parade of upmarket shops but with some good restaurants. And you're very close to Jaffa Gate and the Old City ... some of the views from the hotel are stunning so if you can afford it - why stay elsewhere ... its a no-brainer!

Great hotel in an outstanding location. Just 10 mins to the old city and in the centre of Jerusalem with access to Ben Yehuda and the nightlife and restaurants.

This is our 6th visit to the hotel and we were not disappointed. Amira is a true asset to the hotel and arranged our trip to the highest of standards. Room with the best view in the world to the Old city walls. Nothing was too much trouble for Amira.

The staff are excellent, Housekeeping do a remarkable job and a special mention for them after the amazing way they took care of the room after my young son was unwell. Management are great with the guests - nothing is too much trouble whether it be arranging a table on the terrace or sorting out the smallest detail they are there to do it. I was impressed that the manager on shabbat morning found my son to find out how he was feeling with such genuine warmth and care.

Breakfasts remain fantastic with great fresh salads and fruits. THe standard of food for Friday night was vastly improved from last year and back to its best.

The only point I would make is that the pool area needs Yossi back to run the show. It is not the same without him, I noticed 2 torn umbrellas, reduced pool service with towels etc and no staff/ guest interaction.

As for the hotel a refurbishment program is on the cards and the rooms would benefit from some modernising of fixtures and decor.

Another great stay, we look fwd to coming back next year.

We stayed here for 5 nights with an organized tour. We had a beautiful, large room and wonderfully big bathroom, but with no view to speak of as we were on the first floor looking out at the cars and street corner of the Mamilla Mall. After sleeping on a typical skinny bed that is characteristic in most three star Israeli hotels, where we stayed previous to the Citadel, we were thrilled to have a regular bed with a feather pillow. It was heavenly. This is a lovely upscale hotel with easy walking to the Old City, the beautiful Mamilla Mall across the street, and the center of town, with all its shops and restaurants.

When we had a free evening away from the group and were too exhausted to walk anywhere, we decided to try the dairy restaurant on the second floor of the hotel. The two of us shared a linguini with mushrooms in a cream sauce and it was 58 Shekel ($16) and it was not worth it. It was not a generous portion and it was tasteless.

The breakfast included with the room was fantastic with all kinds of salads, breads and pastries, hot egg dishes, lox and white fish, cereals, yogurt and salads. If anyone goes hungry, it is their own fault. A treat every morning was to sit on the open terrace, overlooking the beautiful pool and seeing the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem and King David’s Citadel in the near distance.

With our group of over 100 people, there was a special Erev Shabbat buffet dinner in a private room. The food was simply outstanding with over 30 different salads and selections of chicken, beef, lamb, fish and duck. And of course delicious desserts, too many to mention.

On Shabbat we decided to sit by the pool. The only way to get in the pool, besides jumping or diving in, was by the steps that are built into the side of the pool, where you have to turn backwards and hold on to the metal rails to climb down, making it very difficult. They are not the typical ledge steps that most pools have. I was not able to go in as I had a bad back and it was impossible for me to maneuver those awkward steps. I was very disappointed not being able to enjoy this beautiful pool.

Although we felt that there was no personal interaction from the staff, it is a wonderful hotel if you can afford it at their regular rates. Personally, we like the King David Hotel better.

We had a wonderful time during our stay here. The room was large and lovely. The location was great and very central. Breakfasts were very good. Said, one of the waiters, took us under his wing and always assured we sat at a nice table and were well taken care of. He was very friendly and added a personal touch to our stay. The swimming pool was lovely and had a great view of the Old City.
