“Our favorite hotel in Jerusalem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2012

There are quite a few beautiful 5 star hotels near the Old City in Jerusalem, but NONE have such old world class, Assyrian inspired architecture, gorgeous gardens and grounds, perfect view, along with beautiful rooms, and excellent cuisine. If you can book well in advance (and if you can afford it) DO take one of the garden rooms that over look the gardens, the pool, and the balcony cafe just below...and of course with a view directly facing the Old City walls which glow gold in the setting sun...
We keep coming back here every time we visit Jerusalem, and the staff always remembers us, which adds to the old world charm, like coming home to the Holy City and feeling you belong.
From the hotel it's just a short walk to the Mammila walkway/shopping mall (a MUST visit), and from there you get right to the gates of the Old City (of course, a MUST).
We've been here dozens of times, nearly always in the garden rooms, and old as it is, it is always new.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, get one of the Garden rooms, but try to get one that is more or less in the ce...

The hotel is superb the people wonderful and the facilities great but but ......
Guess what: for such a 5 star hotel, beyond the rates the WI FI is being charged by the hour, the day and this is just insane with a fee per device and btw my wife and I we had 5 devices so ....
No WI FI in the lobby and then one discover that the bz center has a solution but not really cheap !!
So are we in Israel ze techno country ..........in 2012 ?
And finally everyone in the hotel team is aware not the management !!
Good Luck
Shalom

Friends had advised us to recover from jet lag by going to the King David for the weekend and getting a room with a view of the Old City rather than going to Tel Aviv, where we had business on Monday morning. Excellent advice. The hotel is historic, the location is ideal, the service is luxurious.

Room Tip: Try to get an upper floor with a view of the Old City.

This place reminded me of Beverly Hills. It had that hollywood perfection to it and mansion type appearance. when I arrived my room was still being prepared so they gave me a complimentary coffee and cake on the beautiful terrace. The grounds are so perfectly kept and the pool is fantastic. The room had everything you'd expect plus a remote control for the drapes. There was also a small TV inside the mirror of the washroom to watch while you took care of business. I had a deluxe room facing the new city on the top floor. It had been recently renovated and looked great. I stayed for 4 days and got a discount for signing up to the Dan club online (its free ) Everyone keeps saying to get an old city view. I for one don't think its worth the extra 250 dollars a night. Sure, the view of the new city is crappy but you can see all of the highlights of the old city by walking 10 minutes. If you want to see the view from the air just cross the street and climb up the YMCA tower (you must be 2 people to go up for security reasons). alternatively you can ask the King David staff to go up to their roof. Security will escort you for a look. I went up at night. It was a different perspective of the walls but you can never see the Kotel and the Dome of the rock is not really lit either. Eyal at the front desk was very hekpfull. It was a rare display of north american style customer service which is terribly lacking in Israel. The restaurants in the hotel are somewhat expensive but not unreasonable, The food is ok nothing special at both the cafe and the steakhouse. The gym is small with not much variety in terms of machines. Pretty much every world leader has visited this place and chances are some Hollywood star or politician will be there when you visit. Most have signed their names on the hotel "walk of fame" and have their picture downstairs in teh steakhouse. Complimentary beverages in the mini bar was an unexpected surprise. They also pressed my shirts and ties for free as a gesture late in the day when I arrived and provided a late checkout. Breakfast was good but not better than other hotels in the DAN hotel family (in fact it was slightly inferior in terms of selection. I was surprised when I called down for some mouthwash and they had none. For a hotel of this class it was unacceptable. The fact that internet is not free at a hotel where people are paying 500 minimum a night and more likely 800 is outrageous.

The location was perfect, the room was spotless and the decoration and extra controls in room were great. I particularly liked the bedside controls for all the lights, drapes and even the AC!

The Alarm clock sang "We wish you a merry christmas" which was slightly bizarre. LOL

Bottom line....best hotel money can buy in Jerusalem. Why spend 250 for garbage elswhere when 500 gets you the best Israel has to offer.

Room Tip: Unless it's your first time in Jerusalem, save hundreds of dollars and get a new city view (delu...

One goes to the King David for its historic associations, its superb position with the Old City view, fine food and comfort, and the wholke "great hotel" experience. All of these one will receive. And yet.....perhaps its reputation now exceeds its cpacity to deliver. The view of the Jaffa Gate from our private balcony was stunning and our room very comfortable (once we had worked out the puzzling lighting controls!) and the staff ensure that one's every need is fulfilled - but rarely anticipated: what one asks for one will get - but does anyone notice the declining level of coffee in your cup? Individual staff members can be friendly and interesting, but inevitably some appear to dislike the guests! fThe breakfast is famous, and justly so, but is now exceeded in quality and variety a hundred-fold by the fine hotels in the great Chinese cities. The King David remains a fine place to stay, and a worthwhile experience, but be aware that strict kashrut (kosher dietary laws and sabbath observance is enforced and this may pose mild problems for some at the week-end. What stops the King David from being a Great Hotel - and i have read and heard this comment from too many others - is the inability opf the staff to control the unruly tribe of apparently feral children who run, squabble and scream through the public rooms. It should be simple to insist that children are not left without adult supervision - it is not just the other guests that are abused, but the children themselves - there is a play area but the staff seem too intimidated to move these poor spoiled and over-indulged young visitors away from the public rooms. Even a bar-mitzvah is not an excuse for selfish rowdyism. This is apparently a well-known and consistent phenomenon which truly spoils the othewrwise impressive historic luxury.

Room Tip: City view is worth paying extra for - and without a private balcony the spoiled children in the publ...
