“Correct hotel in mediocre location”
Reviewed 26 April 2012

I was a bit surprised afer reading other reviews, half of them are very positive, some of them are rather bad, so which is the true?

Well, after staying in the hotel for a couple of days, I would say this is quite a ok hotel, but nothing really superb. The hotel building itself is a bit old, and one notices that it could be improved a bit. There is nothing really bad, but you are not under the impression of being at an outstanding hotel, and I would have expected a bit more for the price of the room. Breakfast is rather good, a lot of variety but I was missing a bit of attention to detail (from personnel and service) to make it a bit better.

There is free wifi in the hotel, certainly a good plus, a good spa and swimming pool. I tried the Indian restaurant in the hotel and the food was very good, but again the service could have been a bit more friendly.

The location is probably not optimal if you are going for tourism, the hotel is located nearby the governmental district (close to the Knesset and several Ministries), and there is no much you can do around, except probably visiting the Israel musem.

However, there is a bus from the hotel going to the old town every 2 hours, but you have to ask at the reception to be sure someone will be waiting for you.The trip is for free and takes 15-20 minutes depending on the traffic.

I paid 265 shekels (about 70 USD) for a ride from Ben Gurion airport to the hotel in Jerusalem (about 40 minutes). For going back to the airport, I was offered either a taxi at 350 shekels (??) or a shared bus for 60 shekels, which at the end turned out fairly convenient.

One tip: if you are approaching Jerusalem from the West road from Tel-Aviv, you will see the white Calatrava's bridge in the city, fairly spectacular view by the way. The hotel is very close to it!

I stayed in Crowne Plaza two times in recent years, and always found in this Hotel the welcoming attitude and good value for money. Stunning views on the city, great business center on the top floor, excellent swimming pool (coverd during winter by a glass structure). i warmly recommend it and attach some pictures of and from it.

This Crowne Plaza is a nice hotel. It's in an old Hilton building so certain parts are a bit dated. That said, the rooms were clean and spacious. Wifi was free, so that's nice, but breakfast wasn't included.

The location is a bit far from the old town of Jerusalem, but a complimentary shuttle is provided upon request and it is about a 20 to 25 minute commute by light rail (including the walk). We chose to take the light rail every time and it worked out well and allowed us to operate independently. Being farther out, it is nice that the hotel has all necessary amenities on site such as a couple options for dining...at hotel prices of course. On the plus side, it's very close to the Israel Museum and the city's Central Bus Station (just a 5 minute walk). It worked perfectly for us when we caught our bus down to the Dead Sea.

All in all, this is a good option if the price is right compared to other options closer to the old city, but don't be afraid to look around.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel end of March 2012 and was travelling with a big Catholic tour group going around the Holy Land. I am not so sure if this hotel is in the middle of both Jerusalem and Bethlehem that's why the agency chose this. But definitely, it's not in the old Jerusalem area where most of the sites we visited in Jerusalem are located.

Temperature outside was still cold at around 11C. But it becomes stuffy and humid in the room in the middle of the night. Our only choice was to open the balcony door (and let the cold air in including draft) because there was no aircondition, only heater. Unfortunately, had to suffer the humidity and dry air in the room because I had bad colds and was coughing during that period.

Other than that, the rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. I just wish that the rooms were a little bigger. We had two luggages with us and the room was already full. We had a good view, overlooking the nice bridge.

Had same breakfast food (Kosher) everyday so on the 3rd day, I don't know anymore what to eat. But the breads were delicious. All others are forgettable. Dinner food was quite okay as it catered to more international taste. The beef preparation were very good. The vent for the grill was not good though because the dining area was full of smoke when they were offering steak grilled on the spot.

I also like the fact that there were souvenir stores selling trinkets at the basement near the dining area.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms overlooking the bridge. Nice to look at night especially at night.
