This place looks like it's out of business if you were to walk past it during the day. However, as evening comes and it's opened up, it's a nice and cozy bar with live music. There is no cover charge and the variety of bands is diverse. We went while a jazz jam session was taking place with stand up bass, flute, accordion, piano, and acoustic guitar. Very chill scene with a good alcohol and tap beer selection, including some local brews. Highly recommend.

Was here last Tuesday. The place was kind of empty. Was it just not the right day of the week? Or the weather? Or is it because the locals indeed don't know about it (as jbrandt before me has noted)?

I got a coupon (burger+beer) so I had a burger, which turned out to be a double burger, and which was juicy and delicious - and I don't even like burgers!

Live music downstairs, plenty of room upstairs, funky toilets, friendly staff - what more does one need?

We asked a dozen Jerusalemites about Birman...and got blank looks. How they could not know about this treasure in their midst is baffling.
We had two of our best evenings in Jerusalem dining and grooving at Birman. When we initially asked our waiter about the food he said..."it's food to drink beer with"...which made us think 'bar food'. Let me tell you....this 'bar food' is better than what you get in 90% of the restaurants in the states!
But, the food isn't what we came for...we went for the music...and we weren't disappointed! The first night we lucked into an incredible jam session with a group of some fine, young jazz players. Having owned a jazz club for 20 years I can say I would have hired any one of the 9 or 10 players we heard that evening.
We were then told that if we came back on Tuesday we'd hear the best jazz horn player in Jerusalem....and again...we were thrilled with what we experienced. Miles, Coltrane, standards and more....a killer night! And when was done a group of players and a fabulous young singer sat near our table and treated us to jazz, classical guitar, and vocals in Greek, Spanish, Hebrew and American blues!! Who could ask for more?
Besides all of that...the owner, a musician himself (we missed his every Thursday night gig playing Balkan music there), was a gracious and generous host.
All around...I say....just go there. It's off the popular Ben Yehuda St....on one of the pedestrian only streets (the one with Mexican sombreros hanging overhead).

Looking for a nice place for a drink and we happened upon Birmam's. Wow! Full bar, friendly, good service. And, live music. Piano, accordian, guitar, you name it. What a terrific way to unwind from a hard day of sightseeing.
