We enjoyed our visit to Barkai studios this spring. Ruthi is a lovely person that really tried to make our stay enjoyable. The location is excellent and easy walk to the old city and city center. The price is still a good deal, especially with the location. One strange note, turns out the rate is cheaper in US dollars, than in Shekels. We were quoted a price in USD, and when we arrived said we decided to pay in NIS, and were quoted a price that was roughly $10 more per night (which adds up over a week). We exchanged our NIS for USD and saved $60 by paying in USD.
A few downsides. Some strange smells on the street outside the room and in the bathroom (which is very small, but will fit an average sized adult). Also, the linens while clean had a smell of mildew or cats. Overall, the place is clean and comfortable given the price tag. Also, parking can be a bit challenging if you bring a car.
