“Good hotel for families”
Reviewed 10 May 2012

After reading the mixed reviews on here I was a bit nervous about what I would find when we arrived at the hotel. However, it was not all doom and gloom. The hotel location is across the road from the beach, and the shopping mall. It is very easy to walk to all main facilities in Eilat and the restaurants. There is underground parking if you have a rental car. The hotel is big and busy. We arrived on a Saturday, when all the weekenders from Tel Aviv were there and it was pretty rowdy. Loud music and kids running wild everywhere, but then we half expected that in a family hotel. This hotel is definitely not for those who like a sedate get away. There are several pools, including a baby pool and a shallow pool for young kids, plus larger pools for the adults. They have some entertainment (a bit dodgy) during the day, and music playing around the pool areas. There is a supermarket on site, and some restaurants. There is also an activity area for kids with slot machines and games. The rooms were fairly basic but had all you need. With a separate living area (the sofa was very uncomfortable), a table, fridge, microwave, kettle etc and some complimentary items at the beginning of your stay. All rooms have a balcony.

The breakfast was excellent. A lot of choice and good quality. I would stay again. My only grumbles as with other hotels is that wifi is not free it was 15 shekels for 1 hour, the room was not clean on arrival but when I complained, they turned up in less than 5 minutes. The staff were ok, not overly friendly but were ok.

The room - quite spacious, but unllike nice master bedroom, the sofa-bed for the kids is uncomfortable and squeeks.
Meals - We had the breakfast in the hotel restaurant, and while expansive it wasgenerous and luxurious. It's cheaper to buy coupons in advance than to pay in the restaurant. No espresso machine there, though.
Kids club - here was our main disappointment. the children's club is a small space, hidden between the pools. A TV set is on, which distracts the kids from other activities. one staff member only to supervise, without any organised activity - so we couldn't leave any child alone there, and had to entertain them ourselves. There was no other scheduled acivity during the day (pool games, shows etc), and this was during a school holiday in Israel.

Room Tip: choose a pool view, we didn't because we were afraid of noise, but since there wasn't any or...

the hotel begins to become old and pretty much average.
good for people who seek to save money and prepare their own food.
the beds are short and the mattresses are tough.
the cleaners can do a better job.

In some aspects Club Hotel Eilat is a dump. In many others, thought, it represents a reasonable option for self catered accommodation in Eillat with a lot of extras.

The location is good - not far from the airport (which is in the city center) and close to the beach.

It's main failings are service and maintenance - a large part (most ?) of the hotel's room inventory has been sold as timeshares to the local market: owners are locked into an ironclad contract and must pay considerable yearly fees regardless of whether whether they make use of their allotted week or not. This means that the hotel has a large captive market, which does not bode well for service and maintenance.

The rooms are in reasonable condition - they are ideally suited for a couple (standard suites - bedroom, fairly spacious bathroom with bathtub, living room with fold out sofabed, small dining table and chairs and a kitchenette), plus a small porch with 2 plastic chairs. 2 or more kids can sleep in the living room, but it's a bit cramped.

The bed and bedroom was in fairly good shape (despite no reading lamps bar dazzling spotlights), enough cupboard space + a room safe. The bathroom was in reasonable shape as well and looks like it's been redone recently.

The living room was in poor shape. Dirty, marks and cracks in the flooring. The sofa bed was not clean and stained. The kitchenette is quite basic - microwave, fridge, sink and kettle. Very basic cutlery and crockery. No salt, pepper or sugar. There is, however, a small supermarket in the hotel which is not too expensive. There's a small wall-mounted TV in the bedroom, mounted just high enough to be uncomfortable, and one in the living room. Enough channels, including English speaking ones. There are a couple of in-house movie channels, but the published schedule seems to be fictional at best.

The hotel does have a lot of amenities (a detailed guide with location and opening hours is essential but alas lacking...). There are entertainmment and activity programmes daily for adults and kids, a small craft and games center for kids (amazing how many different projects they can conjure up involving glue, bits of cardboard and sequins), a number of large pools and a hot tub which are reasonably clean and maintained, a spa and fitness center (need to pay extra), a hairdressers and nail salon, a couple of restaurants, a coffee shop and a rather grotty arcade with aging video game machines.

The activities are of course all in Hebrew - for individual travelers (perhaps thinking more of the kids) this might be of limited value for non-Hebrew speakers.

Wifi is available but not free. 15 NIS for an hour, 45 NIS for a day. Or you could go to the McDonalds in the mall across the road and use theirs for free.

The room service people were polite and friendly, many other employees were curt and not really pleasant.

Room Tip: A room with a view of either the pool or the sea (these are rarer, though) is preferable to one look...
