We have just returned from a 3 week vacation in Turkey and we spent 7 nights at the Marmara Guesthouse in Istanbul. We highly recommend this hotel for great service, clean comfortable beds, hearty and tasty breaskfasts and a delightful rooftop terrace. The guesthouse is a family owned business and all members of the family/staff will go out of their way to help guests. We were able to use their computer on a regular basis which provided us with the opportunity to connect with family and friends back home. They also provided insight into the city as well as good recommendations for shopping and restaurants. Wonderful location in the Sultanahmet district and close to all the "must see" attractions.
Would definitely go back!

Room Tip: We loved room 402 as it had easy access to the kitchen, computer and rooftop terrace! Would book this room again.

The Marmara Guest House is a little jewel in the touristy area of Sultanamhet in Istanbul. A short walk from multiple markets, the magnificent Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sofia on the one side, and the Bosphorous on the other, it couldn't be better situated. Small but clean rooms and wonderful hospitality and warmth from the hosts make this a place that I wouldn't hesitate to visit again. The roof top terrace, combined with the "honesty refrigerator" one floor down in the kitchen offers a wonderful place to spend the evening hours reading or just looking out over the sea. Highly recommended.

When we came back from Istanbul, and told our friends that we stayed there for nine days, they asked: good, but where else did you go? My wife and I smiled to these questions, and said, No, we didn't go anywhere. We just enjoyed our stay at Marmara guesthouse. We enjoyed Istanbul at its best!

Our guidebook said many tourists in Istanbul do not wish to go beyond Sultanahmet. The area is fascinating with monuments, mosques, lively shops, restaurants and people all around. But if one wants to enjoy all these during the day, and come 'home' to a quiet, nice place, with a terrace overlooking the sea, and enjoy a drink, Marmara guesthouse is matchless! Everything is within walking distance, but Marmara is noise-free (especially if you take the non-road-side rooms), with really clean rooms, and superb views from the terrace. Rooms and washrooms are cleaned everyday.

The staff is most friendly: they will tell you to get your Muse-Pass from the Archaeological Museum, where there's no que; they will sit and chat with you on the terrace (don't miss to sit on the swing with a book) after offering a nice cup of Turkish tea when you are back from a long day; the lady who comes to clean will take away your plate in the kitchen when you bring it to the sink after an elaborate breakfast. The travel company which is part of the guesthouse is well managed too, and we booked a few tours within Istanbul with them (the walking tours are very nice).

Iif one wishes to get out of Sultanahmet, the tram station is less than 10 minutes walk from Marmara. We visited Beyoglu, Taksim (take the funiculer from Kabatas, the final stop of the tram), Bosphorus, Golden Horn. We liked some of the places (after being heavily influenced by Orhan Pamuk and Elif Shafak's books, which somehow helped us to see Istanbul from an insider's view) and went back. Actually, just walked back to many of them from Marmara.

The airport-transfer worked well, and we booked it for both pick-up and return.

A great place to stay in Istanbul, Marmara Guest house. Beautiful views, roof top restaurant, wonderful staff, clean rooms, within budget. Location is the Central - Sultanahmet area. Near to Blue Mosque and Aya Safia. You feel relax after the tiring day in Istanbul. Just Excellent.
