“Would Come Here Again..”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2012

My wife and I stayed there for about a week, and it was great, i would return to this hotel. I would have given it a full rating except that it was missed it by few minor things such as no trash can / pen /writing paper/ napkins-tissues in room, dated (but clean) bathroom, and no room service, or food menus. However, its all ok because of location (walking distance to restaurants), Hiagh Sofia, Blue Mosque, Bazaar, and tram. The staff spoke good english and was knowledgeable of touristy needs, they can call cabs for you, give you recommendations, and make your stay pleasant. Breakfast on the terrace was simple, but nice variety that included all your basics, breads, honey/jams, tea/juice, eggs, milk, and cereal (all good in quality and presentation). It was snowing for few days, rooms where generally comfortable, but the heater had a crazy schedule and it would be cold for a little bit then very warm later. But nothing intolerable. Due to the proximity to the road, you can here some street vendors and other walker-by, but that makes it more authentic. Overall i'd give this place a 7.5 out of ten, and I would stay there again for couples or small families on a budget.

Room Tip: Make sure you call or email them with your special needs if you have any, prior to arrival. This ho...

My first tip is to book your rooms via the hotel's own website it is much cheaper here than any of the booking sites. I only found this out after booking it through a booking site. We were flying into Sabia Gokcen airport which is quite far outside the city on the Asian side. I found it difficult to ascertain how to get to the hotel using the various methods from the airport so I booked a transfer with the hotel which was €50 each way which divided between three of us was fine. We had a 7 seater pick us up and drop us so it is good value for larger groups. I cannot say enough about the staff here they are absolutely wonderful. Ahmed in reception was very helpful with tips about the city and gave us excellent advise on using the Metro and the ferries (we didn't get a chance to take the ferry to the otherside). I was trying to get hold of family in Istanbul and he told me about the phone cards for the public phones which was a great help. I didn't catch the name of the lady who deals with the breakfasts in the morning but she was lovely and eager to help even though she had limited English. The breakfast is great, the hot part consists of scrambled eggs mixed with different things like meat or potatoes, a type of sausage and savoury turkish pastry. There are olives, cucumber, tomato, cheese and cold meats on offer as well as a variety of breads and cereals. One tip the peach juice is nicer than the orange juice which my friend told me tasted like cordial. The view from the restaurant is breathtaking - the Blue Mosque to the back and the Marmara sea to the front. I loved staring out at the flotilla of ships that seemed to sit there each morning. The rooms are the only real downfall. The average rooms are small and the double bed feels quite small by husband's feet were sticking out well over the end of the bed. We had to change rooms because we could not sleep in the original room which faced the street and the mosque. If you have not visited a Muslim country before be prepared for the early morning call the prayer. Added to this was the plethora of seagulls and the noise of cars gunning it up the hill outside. They very kindly changed our room to one facing out over the terrace we even got a little balcony - we couldn't use it due to the dreadful weather. The location is wonderful apart from being close to the main tourist attractions in Sultanahmet there are a number of restaurants in the immediate vicinity and a small supermarket where you can purchase some drinks to put in the fridge in your room. My criticisms of the hotel are these: the shower sealant had been affected by mould inside and looked quite dingy and this was the case in both bathrooms, the doors to the bedrooms and bathrooms were scuffed, they were doing up the reception area so it got a little noisy and dusty, the heating was not on during the day and trying to get the aircon unit to provide any heat proved too baffling for me and the hair dryer in my friend's room had bubbled in parts due to overheating.
I would absolutely recommend this hotel as it is exceptional value for money and the service is second to none. This is not a four or five star hotel so do not come here expecting that level of accommodation.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the garden area as the rooms facing the street can be noisy

The room was clean and new. Staff was very helpful and breakfast was nice. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who travels to Istanbul! There is mosque near the hotel, but it didn't disturb us at all. We stayed for 5 nights.

i stayed at the tashkonak hotel for two nights with a friend, and overall we had a wonderful time! As a lot of people have said, the location was great, very near to the main tourists attractions such as the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, and Topkapi Palace, but the hotel is located well enough that its peaceful and not busy with noise. Most of all, what I liked the best about this place is the service provided by the staff. We were greeted warmly by the reception, he was very helpful, and we were given good suggestions on what to do in such a short period of time. The room is clean, spacey and girl-friendly (meaning there's a hairdryer!), and all the basic necessities. Also worth noting, the breakfast is great! There was a big selection of food, including traditional turkish choices, and for the money we paid for, overall it was very good value! Would definitely recommend this hotel to other visitors going to instanbul :)
